I have been doing some research on external battery packs for the E-xx. The LiPO grip might be the best option but it costs > $250. From searching the group postings and several user web sites a good and much cheaper option is the MAHA batter pack that Thomas Distributing sells for about $52.

I just came across a unit sold with the Lenmar name that looks exactly like the MAHA pack. It also has the same options and specs: http://64.63.52.231/bc/product.asp?Model=PRO6VH&settings=L0834U89323K5

The Lenmar unit (Pro-V6) can be found (thru Yahoo shopping) for about $40. Has anyone bought the Lenmar unit and care to comment on it?

Perry,

The Lenmar unit is only a 6volt NiMh unit, the MAHA unit recommended for the Exx is a 7.5volt Lithium Ion pack.

Adrian,

You are right their site does recommends the 7.5V unit. However, Olympus' external supply is rated at 6.5V. I guess either would work since 7.5V is provided by the LiPo grip. I wonder which would last longer?

Perry, The Li-Ion is the battery pack you want from Thomas Distributing if you decide to go that way and they sell for around $59. I have two of them I have used in the past with the E-10 and now use with the E-100rs. The only draw back is that you are tethered but you can either clip it to a flashbracket you can leave on the camera, clip it to your belt, or put it in your shirt pocket. It is very light. On the other hand, the Lipo Grip will probably last most of the day giving you 800 shots or more. It adds so weight to the E-10 but for some makes the E-10 that much better. It also gives you another shutter button. Recently if you get the older model which works on the E-10/E-20 ( same holder different capacity battery) some have found them for $229 to $249. Do a search for Lipo Grips on the forum.
Several vendor have it. I did a search for "Lenmar power pack".
The best price ($39) was at Alto Camera:

Jason you can get a better unit if you purchase a Quantum power pack (Battery 1 Compact), is more expensive but you can power the camera and a flash unit at the same time.

Hi Perry, I have had the Maha pack for about a month, of course I am not using it everyday, but it has held its first charge since I got it. I took the recharable batteries out of the E-10 and just leave the Maha plugged in all the time. If your shooting a ton of pictures then probably go for the Lipo grip. The Maha may hold its own against the Lipo but I can't say for certain. I got mine through the link you had and it is the 7.3 volt one for the E-10/20. For me the $200 + saved can be better spent on a lens for the camera. Good luck in your choice. Dave

One here, but I don't know anything about it.

Yes Hugh I think Koo22 pointed that out a while back. Since I use the FL-40 and it does not have an external hook up for power on it that I am aware of, it was not an issue for me.

Hi Dave! You know you can leave your batteries in the E-10/20 or E-100rs and still use the external battery pack. The batteries in the camera are there for back up then and if you external battery pack runs out of power then your Internal camera batteries take over. I leave my camera on all the time when I am using the external battery pack so its ready to go when I am taking picture. I do not want to miss a shot waking it up.

Jason,

I see that thomas distributing recommends the Li-Ion pack. However, I am curious why. The camera runs on 4 AA batteries and NiMH's give 4.8V. The external supply is rated at 6.5V and I know the camera must regulate the power that either the batteries, LiPo or external supply. So why is the LI-Ion recommended? Based on the specs of each MAHA unit they both should give about 11000 mA*V of power. Either should power a E-xx for the same time. What am I missing?

Perry.

Take a look at the battery pack from Unity Digital. Buy.com has them for $49.00. I just got one last week and it literally shoots forever!!!! I am very pleased.
