Got a 2GB A-Data SD card from Meritline.com for $20.95, with free shipping.

I'm not familiar with A-Data, but at this price I didn't worry. Card just arrived, and it seems to work great in the FZ50. Anyone else used this card?

Oddly enough, my spare battery from BestBatt came in the same mail. It's charging now, so I'm all fixed up. ;-)

I think we've determined the Fz30 maxes out @ 66x write speed & the Fz50 can do better with the faster cards, so while the 50 will probably have no problem with the 50x, in general... It will record to the card slower than it will with a faster rated card... Although it won't be as big a deal with single shot JPG as it will be when shootin seqences in JPG or recording RAW...

Only on occaision have I found myself having to wait much with my Patriot Extreme 133x 2gig writing a sequence in my Fz30 but I've never shot RAW nor would the Fz30's max 66x speed really make much of a difference with faster cards.. So you may not have a lot of waiting neither, especially if you don't do RAW much but according to those that are avid RAW shooters & that have compared varying speed cards writes doing RAw & Movies in the 50... The faster the card, the better... It actually can write much faster than the 30

Newegg is currently selling the A-Data 50x for 18.99 while the 150x A-data 'Turbo' is currently sellin for 31.99...

Currently the same 133x Patriot 'Extreme' 2gig that I paid over $100 for just over a year ago is sellin for $33.99...

One of these days, when I stop procrastinating, I'll be getting the cheapest 66x or faster rated 2gig card, which for a third of what I paid last year is a nice bargain even if the 50 & 60x cards are just over ½ that cost..

Panasonic 'Gold' & Sandisk Ultra II & Extreme III are all over-priced at at least twice that of the A-Data 'Turbo', Patriot 'Extreme', Corsair 133x & several other 133x to 150x lesser-knowns of the same 2gig cpacity...

Hell you even get the option to go higher than the 2gig max capacity the Fz30 is limited to...

I'm buyin the 133x -150x now so it won't be an issue in the future, which was my reasoning last year when the patriot was the cheapest of even a lot of the 50x & 60x cards of the day...

Regardless, I wouldn't sweat it unless you end up finding yourself waiting more than you'd like or runnin out of room often... Then ya can always grab another faster larger cpaacity cheapie...

We've only had a few card issue posts over the past year that i can recall & those were for both the cheapie lesser known brands as well as one or two using the 'Big Name', over-priced brands...

Funny you asked that question. I was looking at getting a 2GD card and went to ebay. Someone is selling A-Data cards. There is a ebay power seller selling them for .01 and shipping is $6.99. They have a high rating so I was going to take the chance. So far has anyone had a problem? For $7.00 it would be worth the try.

If you can get them for cheap enough, it might be worth it. Where is the seller from? You have to be cautious sometimes with ebay and memory cards, often they're from asia they are cheap knockoffs with brand name labels. While memory is memory, it can be bad when the memory hasn't went through ANY quality control.

Just food for thought.

Seller is from Westlake, CA, so hopefully it is good. The cheapest I have seen 2gd cards is $40.00 and that is after rebates.

I have a A-Data 'Speedy' 2 GB SD card in my Pentax - it's anything but, and seems even slower than the 32x card in my Panny. But, it was only $15 after rebate, and it's 2 gigs.

I've also read, some shady EBay dealers are pasting Big Name brand labels (Sandisk) of 1 & 2 gig or larger false capacities on 32mb SD & then the people buying them @ rediculously ultra-low prices wonder why the card registers full after a mere ½-dozen shots are captured...

I'm all for paying as little as possible & avoid sandisk & lexar etc specifically to avoid the exorbitant cost associated with what for the most part can be blamed on the 'Big Name' for essentailly the same thing as what Adata, Corsair & others that aint quite as famous are selling through reputable dealers @ ½ the price or even less for the same speed & capacities...

That's one reason I settle for NewEgg & a few others for certain things while i have taken risks on EBay for other less pricey or less important items... I also try & use a method of payment that might reimberse me for rip-offs, such as a CC with internet fraud protection... Wish there was a way to verify the hallowed "Power Seller" reputation too... I admit i've let that sway me to take a chance & so far i've not been burned but it's a point of contention I get paranoid with once in a while...

Amen to that. I agree, I get nervous as well. Knock on wood I haven't been nurned yet, but I am not that trusting to buy an electronic item on ebay over $50 bucks. I could have gotten my FZ7 for almost $65 cheaper, but I like to option to walk it back to the retailer if I have problems.

I appreciate your insight into Ebay.

Also in CA & regarded highly in the techie world of computer & digital components , both big name as well as lesser known names & quick to deliver too... I've gotten good prices on everthing from SM to CF to SD to LCD's & Harddrives & other assorted puter stuff for the past several years.... And they're usually within dollars of the best prices for the same or similar items with & or without rebates & sometimes get rebates the BestBuys & CircuitCities don't get... Check em out @ resellerratings.com

FWIW some of those sub-$40 2gig cards in that link come with readers & the cheapest ones are pretty much 50 or 60x & many have lifetime warranty...

I've been using the Patriot Extreme 133x 2gig for over a year now with no problem....

When you type 'Speedy', aside from being sarcastic, what speed is it labeled to purpportedly be??

It's supposed to be 50x. My other card is a regular Lexar 1GB. I would guess the A-Data card is closer to the 20-30x range, but for the price, I won't complain too loudly.

Actually, "Speedy" is the model name of the card. I've checked the AData site and it doesn't admit to any particular speed, other than conforming to various standards. I therefore assume it's not particularly fast.

But since I don't use burst mode or do movies, it should suit my purposes fine as long as it doesn't lose data.

Also got a 2Gb A-data card from Ebay for about AU$60. It says 150X Turbo SD. I was hesitant too because of all the fake cards being sold in Ebay. I look at the following to help me decide on an item:

Seller feedback -I try to read all the negatives, not the positives because they can easily be fabricated. If someone was sold a bad product there's more chance you'll here about it.

Packaging- I take a look at the manufacturer's website and check if there's a photo of the card together with the packaging. Dodgy packaging = dodgy product.

Lastly I ask the seller if the card comes as pictured in the description. I think some cards are sent with just the case. The one I bought arrived sealed.

Having used it for a couple of months now I haven't had problems. When it comes to the advertised speed I have no scientific way to test it. All I noticed is burst mode in jpeg is the way it should be (5 shots high speed burst mode) and no continous mode in RAW at all. It performs about the same with my other 512Mb Lexar Platinum II card (60x) from a store in the city, which is $40 and that's on sale

I know it's just $60. The thing is I would not want to wait for a week or two for the card to arrive only to get a poor quality fake one.

On a side note I've bought almost all my camera stuff from Ebay. The most expensive one being $600. Thank goodness I haven't been burned yet. I'm actually planning to get another 2Gb A-data card from the same seller :)

Good advice. My A-Data card came from a known etailer, and came in the mfr's sealed plastic "hanger card" packaging. It was so tamper-proof I finally had to take a knife to it to get the card out. LOL.

I have 3 1GB SD's, as well as some 512's, some 256's and other assorted stuff, so I can use the A-Data as a spare if I want to. In short, I have WAY more flash memory than I could ever use, but at these prices I say go for it.
