if you have been using the new ink from Epson that was made in China, and like me have been frustrated with it then here is what to do. i called Epson and complained about the "China" ink having a red tint to it and of course they have never heard of this problem before. ask to speak to a supervisor and tell them how you just bought some ink cartdridges and they were made in china and now your stuck with ink and a printer that won't print photos properly. they will tell you again they have never heard of this problem but they did offer to replace, at no cost to me, my "China" ink cartridges. the new ink arrived yesterday and guess what, they were made in Japan. if Epson won't admit there is a problem then why did they replace my ink (for free) and make sure the cartridges i got were from Japan. if everyone who has had this problem calls them and gets free ink perhaps Epson will get the message that there are alot of unhappy customers out here. --George F

George,

I just purchased two cartridges of ink for my 870, and they are both marked "Made in China". If I have any problems I want to call Epson. What office of Epson did you call?

Do you know the source (Japan, China, other) of your current ink?

When you install the new Chinese cartridges, beware that there is still previous ink in the ink reservoirs above the printheads, so you need to allow some time (printouts) to allow for the new ink to flow through unmixed with the old one. After that can you report your findings?

Yes, the same happened to me. I had a defective cartridge replaced by Epson and. lo and behold, they replaced it with a Japanese made cartridge.

So I immediatel;y talked to severl people at Epson requsting to purchase Japanese cartridges. They outright refused to make any effort to locate Japanese cartridges for me ,wouldn't admit they have them, and informed me I would have to take whatever they sent. Thanks a lot Epson.

Replaced exhausted Chinese color ink cart with new Chinese cart today. Made a print with my normal anti-red/magenta tweeks in place, and the print was.....green/cyan! Checked everything, made two more green/cyan prints. Decided to start over and zeroed all settings. Selected Color controls> photo realistic. No color corrections at all. Print was perfect.

Is it possible Epson has reformulated the Chinese ink to work properly? Has anyone else had this sudden-green phenomenon?

It's a 780 printing on HWM.--EB

Gee, I hope that you are right.

Do you have the expiration date and batch number on the carton for the cartridge? It would be a help: I will try to find similar.

Ir would be just like Epson to finally correct the problem without admitting it ever existed!

I've gone through 3 color cartridges "made in China" with my 1280 since November and all prints were perfect. The cartridges were purchased from B & H Photo in New York.

This may be the reason that my new 1280 is printing beautifully with the Colorlife profiles from Epson and the HWM profile from Ian Lyons. I was not pleased with the CL profile (granted, a different profile, but should have been the same---for my 875) and was using drastic manual settings to attain the correct final image. My ink for the 1280 is Chinese but its printing fine with the profiles, color managment in PS. I haven't tried just the media settings and photo realistic.

I've been trying to get in contact with Epson and I can't! I've called the epson store becasue some of my ink was from them....... and my problem is I've gto 4 of these inks and I've tested them all to find if the problem persists and it does.. and I want new ink.

George,

You must have had a fluke, or a bad batch of ink. I've had no problems with the Chinese ink. I think they gave you the Japanese ink to get you off the phone. I know most companies realize that keeping you on the Phone is bad for PR, so they'd rather give you the free ink, and tend to the next customer, than to stay on the phone with you and argue a point that they know they won't win.

Glad to hear that Epson cares enough to keep you as a customer. Thanks for the tip.

Hello all! Thanks for this information. I am having a similar problem with my new 785epx. My color saturations are too light. This is even with the PRINT "technology" and printing directly from the CF card. The ink is from China. I would like to contact Epson about this, but I am not sure which number to call. Could someone provide the actual telephone number you have called to resolve the "bad ink" issue? Thanks in advance!

hmm i just bought 16 Epson color ink cartridges, and they are all labeled "Made in Mexico"...they have been working fine. And I've had the ones from Japan too, they were the same, nothing noticeably different. Also...I don't know if it matters, but the variety I have are of the new packaging [large white boxes] and old packaging [little blue boxes].

I can also confirm that the current batch of cartridges be it from Japan or China (for the 870/875/1270/890/1280) seem to print identically. I print using the new ColorLife ICC profile.

They are all probably made in Japan, they are just assembled (put in the bag) in other countries. Like AMD and Intel CPU's. they are not manufactured in Malaysia, Costa Rica, they are just packaged there. Intels fabs for Pentium 3/4 are in Cali and Oregon, and AMD's fabs are in Germany and the US.
