DIY Vagabond / power pack parts list

Thanks Mike for you time writing this ang giving us such support with your valuable information!

Anyone from Miami who might be following this thread, could tell me any store which I can find a 300W Pure sine wave inverter? Samlex or any other bran...

My brother in law will be in Miami next week, so he can bring me one...

Thanks!!!
I used 4 5AH batteries because I got the batteries cheap. Otherwise
I would've bought a single.
How much batteries will I need to support 2 AB800 at full power
for about 300 flashes? just to have an idea...

I read your inicial thread and you said that we might start from a
10 to 12Ah and keep it to a minimum, to avoid overweight...

If I use just 2 bateries of 7,2Ah... will it last long enough?

Why did you use 4 batteries of 5Ahon your project, and not a single
one of 20Ah?

Dont know anything about eletronics....

Thanks

Ricardo

I shopped around on the web and found that inverter for $118 at this web site at Marketronics.com in Sunrise, FL:

Are these Samlex inverters designed for, or work as, a current-controlled inverter so the recharge surge wont trip a breaker or safety device of the inverter. The bagabond units can handle multiple lights without tripping the unit.

I have two AB's 1600 units and was thinking on buying the Bagabond unit, but I could use two 300 Samlex inverters for faster recharge time if they are current-controlled.

I've used an AB800 and X1600 simultaneously on a single 300W Samlex and it handled them fine.

Anybody know who sells this in Los Angeles or nearby? I've been looking for something like this.
As far as something to tote it around on... I find this nifty
LadderKart from Franzus is a good option at just $60. nice 4"
wheels for easy rolling and a 30" high top step on the 3 step
ladder which is always there when you need it.

I already have the Vagabond cu150 (Thank you Paul Buff, Love it) and I'm now wondering if I could add a 300w unit to my existing Vagabond 150w inverter.

Anybody able to test the recycle times of the 300w inverter vs the 150w and two 150w inverters? How about dual 300w units?

As far as redundancy, your car battery is always available.

My testing indicates the 300W inverters current limit to the same 2.5A value as the 150W inverters and thus won't cycle any faster than the Vagabond 150 inverter. They will provide more power for the modeling lamps, but this will drain your batteries real fast.

hi all

i am going to try and build one of these, i managed to get a 150w inverter and i found a 12v 10ah battery in one of these emergency car starter that i had in my car and never used. i think the battery is SLA, it sais FL12100 - rechargable VRLA battery but it looks like SLA to me
i just need to figure out the charger

any one can expend on how to connect the battery to the inverter?

i guess i need a converter from the 12v car jack to something else, my electricity knowledge is very limited (i can turn the lights on)

thanks

HI,

I managed to put together this experiment. I have a 300W inverter,(Aims Power) 12V SLA 18AH battery (by Power Sonic), fully charged the battery, turn it on everything is working. I first plug in my cheapo strobe, they both work just fine and its recycle very quickly. Then I plug in my AB800, guess what! It will not turn it on. Just to check maybe my AB800 is at fault, I plug the AB to AC outlet, its working just fine. Then I plug in my cheapo strobe again, they are working just fine, so the question now is, did I do something wrong? Am I using the wrong battery?
How can a 10AH battery work on AB800 and not 18AH?

Please Help
Cesar
