Hi,

I recently bought the EOS 5D, and have used it with my Canon 35 - 350 USM L lens. Obviously there will be a compromise in the quality of the results at the extreme ends of the lens range, but I have been shocked at how bad the results are, particularly for an 'L' rated lens. Does anyone else use this lens, and if so, what experiences have they had / advice can they give? I have tried talking to Canon - their support desk were, as usual, completely unable to help - but that should be the subject of another topic!

Have you used the lens with another camera? What was that like?

I have, and have always thought that the lens was a bit of a compromise. But I think that digital really shows up the limitations of the lens.

Hi, Jörg,

You have posted some fantastic pictures. But if you look along the edges of the wings (the issue particularly shows up on straight edges), you will see what I mean. In particular, look at the pictures on the 350 end of the lens. Edges start to break up in the recorded picture.

Look at the wing margins of Joerg-Engels aircraft pics. in one of the responses to this - that demonstrates what I mean....

Hi,

I owned a 35-350L for years (shooting film) and I truly loved the versatility and quality of the lens, even though there were some limitations which I mostly found in distortion rather than in IQ.

BUT after I went digital (1,6x) I was not happy anymore with the IQ (especially sharpness and corner softness was an issue). So I sold it and got myself a 28-300L IS. That lens is excelllent on a 1,6x body and very good on a 1,3x body. I have no experience how it performs on a full frame body, but there are lots of threads about this lens.
