In another threat (part I, http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1036&message=20756660 ) I reported about the performance of the Eneloop-batteries in my flash.

Today I can report about their performance in my Ist-Ds.

To be short: on 18Sep2006 I put 4 fully charged Energizer 2500 mAh's in my Ds, at image number 2143. They were empty on shot 2288, on 27Sep2006. So they lasted 145 shots / 10 days. (in range with my previous experiences with them, although I never counted this before)

That same day I put 4 brand new Eneloops in it, fully charged. Today they were empty, at shot no. 3070. That's 782 shots / 45 days (if I count well).

Some more facts:

-the Energizers should be at about the peak of their performance, I have them since this summer. The Eneloops were brand new (first charge) so maybe they will improve.

-both were charged with my Maha C401FS, which should be one of the best chargers around (+ 4 independent circuits)

-there is nothing wrong with my Energizers... the performance of the 4 individual batteries is "comparable". (And I have enough of them! 12 or 16 I think)

-I always shoot RAW, check the histogram after nearly every shot, I almost never use my internal flash, but I like to browse through my pictures on the Ds, review them, delete some of them... .

-the battery indicator on my Ds showed "half empty" two days ago. I shot + - 45 shots after I first saw this. Today its satus was "empty" but I still could shoot about 10 images with that. That's an advantage of the Eneloops too (discharge at the end = less steep than with "normal" NIMH's)

Great report Andreas.

Thanks for coming back with a part II.

Now if only I hadn't bought 32 of the Energizer 2500's last year.

he he

well I have some Energizers from before, and I bought 8 2700 NIMH's (as I couldn't find any Eneloops) one from Maha and another from Fuji something (nothing to do with the Fuji Photo I think)... both 2700's hold quite well, much better than my Energizers too, Fuji seem to be 400+, while Maha I have not depleted yet, but they seem to be lasting a bit longer than Fuji already so will see, but I am satisfied so far

It's with K100D, and I review photos in most cases plus delete a fair number of them. Flash use is minimal too.

a billion of someting is an awful lot of anything

Same feeling here :-( There was a "3+1" offer in the supermarket for the Energizers 2500 this summer and I bought too much of them.

I hope I get rid of them (although that's not the right word, for they most probably are decent performers when used intensively for a short period of time) in the toys of the children. (Although I would like to use the Eneloops there too...)
Great report Andreas.

I've been fortunate enough to only have eight of them. Along with eight DigiPower rechargeable of 2500 and 2400 mAh capacities respectively. After getting these Pro-Tama batteries I don't think I need Enloops, these 2800 mAh cells at 1.25v give me well over 600 shots with gradual use or much more with continuous use.

I use the Energizers and the Digipowers in my flash now, along with other general AA uses where needed. :-) In the camera they run out like water.
Great report Andreas.

Thanks for pointing this out. Eneloops seem impossible to source in the UK, I'm going to try these Uniross lookalikes. A quick Google shows there are lots of retailers - Uniross is very well distributed - and the second hit revealed:

£6.99 including postage for a pack of four. Must be worth a try :-)

And try I did just now. Shame I'm gonna be away in Brighton til Thursday, though I have a new set of lithiums to keep me going til then.

I've just pulled the trigger on 2 sets of Hybrios. I'll report back here after using them for a while.

Glad that I could help a bit.

Please report back your findings, cause I would really find good use of these batteries for my flashes.

Mine arrived this morning, four working days. I thought this was slow until I realised they are sent from the Channel Isles to avoid VAT, hence the low cost, and that's pretty good service compared with most of the competition.

They seem quite heavy for 2100mAH batteries, slightly heavier than my Sanyo 2500mAH and significantly heavier than my "normal" Uniross 2000mAH. I'm going to give them a top-up charge with my MaHa C401 and see how they pan out in the DS - self-discharge shouldn't be an issue (70% at 1 year) so if they deliver 600+ shots I'll be happy.

Incidentally my old Uniross 2000mAH are fairly low self discharge but don't really deliver the energy for more than about 300-400 images whereas the Sanyo 2500mAH can shoot triple that in a short period - but are flat in a week. I hope these Hybrios give the best of both :-)

I will be using them in my flash and drive during the upcoming three week trip. Will use CRV3s in the DS though. Perhaps when I'm through the Eneloops will also find their way into the DS... To be seen...

I just got my 2100mAh Hybrios today from Directfoto. They're made in China although Uniross are a French company.

Initial measurements showed them at 1.30v out of the packet, dropping to 1.24v connected briefly to my home made conditioning discharge load which isn't a steady current unfortunately (diode in series with low value resistor) but that would be around 1A. I then charged them at 1.0A constant in a smart charger which shut off after 35 mins, so roughly speaking that makes the batteries at about 75% or more charged straight out of the packet. After 3 hours rest they measured 1.40v, dropping to 1.31v on load (over 1A).

All seems good stuff. The batteries have 7H-420mA written on them which I take as 7hrs at 420mA for a full charge from empty which works out at 2940mAh i.e. 71% charging efficiency FWIW. The info on the packet said they keep 80% charge for 6 months, I'm just looking forward to being able to trust batteries I haven't used much for a few weeks. I'll post again if they fail to live up to expectations.

Hi there:

I have the energizers you mention and I get many more shots then you get from yours. I have not made any definitive tests but the last time I had to recharge them I estimate I took over 400 shots. Less than fifty of these were flash but my hunch is that with many of the high frame counts flash isn't used often.
