Just curious, why so many DSLR posts in this forum?

Not that is bothers me, I am typically in the Canon forums, but recently picked up a Nikon S10 as a second camera. Just seems as though the questions asked about Nikon's DSLR's and Lenses would get more attention in the proper forums. Although I do understand that it is easy to get comfortable with the people of a given forum.

People simply think this is a generic Nikon forum, and fail to read the fine print below the forum headline:

"Welcome to the Nikon Talk Forum, the place to discuss Nikon Coolpix digital cameras."

were members of this forum and established friendships (within the limitations of email) with many people over here. Count me as one.

I like the more friendly atmosphere here. "Constructive criticism" over here focuses on "constructive" and helpful hints.

Some of the other DSLR forums can have very high standards and some of the posters over there have very high opinions of their own opinions. Focus can be very much on "criticism", especially among the trolls from that other camera site who are very quick to give overall, global attacks on the worth of a particular weakness rather than trying to help the poster advance photographic skills.

Some newbies can be intimidated very quickly when hit by that welcome wagon. Feel free to count me in there with them.

I suppose Nikon was one of the first groups to have a following, since they had in my opinion one of the first digicams to have mass appeal with good image quality back with the coolpix 900. So I'm sure ther is a lot of history here. I also realize there are a lot of snooty people in the DSLR forums, but at the same time, if you can get past that there is a lot of experience there as well. Oh well, my first digital camera was a Sony F717, and also though the STF was much friendlier than the Canon DSLR forums, but sometime if you want the answers your looking for you have to move on.

I took a look at the profiles of those who posted DSLR related questions recently and it was all people who bacame members in the last 6 months or less with not many posts, so I am tending to discount the nostalgia theory.

NTF has got to be one of the friendliest forums here. It doesn't get the typical "my dad can beat up your dad" posts that the DSLR forums seem to get. Some of us just want camaraderie; not confrontation. This is the "proper" Nikon forum for that... :-)

Fair enough, perhaps this is one of the few forums that do not have the Forum Police scaring everyone away. :-).

I suppose if there is enough experieced DSLR owners hanging in this forum, those posting questions will get satisfactory answers.
It is nice to hang with friendly people for casual conversation and commrodary.

But I also find that those strongly opinionated people in the other forums tend to stir up a lot more dialog, and that can be both entertaining and educational, as well as help one to thicken up thier skin:-).

Many of us still have our coolpix cameras, and have added a DSLR. This still feels like home to me, and I post pics from both cameras because I know and respect the opinions I'll get here.

Because there are no interesting Nikon Compacts anymore? - after the demise of the 8800, 8400 and 7900 there's little worth bothering with, options from Fuji, canon, panasonic and dare I say it Samsung are far more interesting.

You hit the nail directly on the head. Both the Nikon DSLR talk and lens talk forums are very harsh and hard to work yourself into.
