Voting Rules
  • DO NOT vote for your own pictures. If you vote for your own picture, I will count those points towards my entry.
  • Voting closes at 11:59pm GMT November 7
  • Vote by replying to this thread
  • You must vote for 3 pictures in each gallery
  • To keep the voting anonymous, please do not post your entries anywhere other than The Challenge galleries until the voting period has ended.
If you want to explain what you liked about the photos, or why certain photos didn't make it into your top three, I think this is the place for it. I'll start in the first reply to this thread. Note that this is voluntary.

Since I'm the host my votes don't count, but if they did:

Main Challenge:
1. (5 points): Ghost

Such a simple thing - a single handprint - but add the touch of mystery with the title and the gradation of colors, and it becomes something complex and interesting.

2. (3 points): Subway
3. (1 point): In the still of the night

Honorable mentions: Samburu, which is only let down by the slight motion blur. Also, Blad for its amazing detail and vibrant color - but it just couldn't break the cliche of the backlit leaf shot (disclaimer - I have dozens of these shots, not as well executed, from this month!).

Exhibition Gallery:
1. (5 points): Monumental

I don't think there is a question - the capture of such a non-photogenic object in such a striking and pleasant manner, makes Monumental a joy to view.

2. (3 points): On The Summit

This looks to me exactly what a film shot should be, and it presents a peak reached, an ending of success.

Hi

As others have mentioned this was a tough call in both galleries.

Main challenge:

1) End of the day
To me the best interpretation of the theme and technically well handled.

2) The runner
Gorgeous color and powerful mood.

3) Light The Hay
Strong composition and interesting light play.

Exhibition Gallery:

1) Caress
Nice curves in the image and the light play is excellent.

2) Powered By The Sun
Obvious heavy PP but still interesting

3) Glasses
Nicely composed still life and technically well handled.

Congratulations to all that entered for making this such a tough choice.

Regards,
GregT

1. (5 points): Hopper
2. (3 points): Moon shine
3. (1 point): light my hay

Exhibition Gallery:
1. (5 points): Caress
2. (3 points): clock tower
3. (1 point): Stare

Main Challenge:

1. (5 points): End of Day. Conforms perfectly to the theme. Nice composition and colors.
2. (3 points): The runner. Because it want to make me go out and run.
3. (1 point): Hopper. Very nice, but too ominous for me.

Exhibition Gallery:

1. (5 points): Light after the storm We all like storms to be over; certainly when out and about.
2. (3 points): Powered by the sun. Mysterious.
3. (1 point): Autumn.

Gerard. Who didn't enter in this challenge - what is the next?

Challenge:
1- Ghost
2- In Still of Night
3- Light Hay

Exhibition
1- Stare
2- Dreams
3- Powered by the Sun

And a brief note that there were some superb sillhouette shots (sp?) in both categories, but I excluded them from voting out-of-hand because I felt that they didn't meet the point of the theme: to have the subject back-lit but have details visible.

Also, what is becoming my traditional honorable mention for extreme creativity:

Back Lighting - not "technically" matching the theme, taking it to the literal extreme was a very creative touch.
