I took my E-10 back to the camera shop for its upgrade from 1.20 to 1.30 and also have a dust mark removed from the CCD ,what i would like to know is who has had this done and what benifits did they get or not, any views apreciated Jonthan Richardson.

1.30 adds the pixel-mapping capability (like the E20) - I'm 99% sure 1.20 didn't offer that.

The option is hidden as the very last item in the setup menu.

It's more like an update... as aerog said, the 42-0130 firmware only adds pixel mapping. A byproduct of being able to pixel map is that fewer hot pixels seem to show up at long exposures. I used to see hot pixels at +2s, but after the update I only see them after 4 seconds - here's where the term "your milage may vary" comes into play :-)

Hi Jonathan

Well - the Americans are always told that the 1.3 ONLY does pixel mapping. But my upgrade said that it improved picture quality as well. I haven't used mine enough to be sure, but lots of others have, and do think it's improved.

whatever

kind regards

Now that I have the E10 back I'm going to run it over to the Woodbury NY service center for the firmware upgrade.

I called and was told that I can drop it off in person.

Any improvements will be like icing on the cake.

regards,
blang

HOW CAN YOU TELL WHAT VERSION YOUR E-10 HAS?

Before i took mine in for 1.30 it did not have pixel mapping icon as last menue item, if you don't have that you are still 1.20 If you do take it in say you need tha auto focus fixed and while ther'er at it upgrade it to 1.30 then it does not cost anything, under warrenty.

I checked by opening up an image from my documents using notepad(windows-programmes-accesories).

In notepad go to files -open-then browse for one of your E10 pictures and open it.
A series of symbols and letters will appear.
Use your FIND feature and type in olympus.
you will find your E10 version in that thread.
Hope this helps

Better still, just download "Exif Reader" ( http://www.takenet.or.jp/~ryuuji ) , or use a program like "thumbs+" to view the exif information in the .jpgs - they'll tell you all kinds of information about the image and camera.
