Hi everyboby,
brought new S3IS, but camera is not getting on , shot only 1 picture.
batteries using panasonic alkaline supplied with camera.
Orientation of battries checked they are ok.
Gone through all adv. and basic manual.
Checked the memory card and it's slot it seems ok.
I am getting confused.
As there is no movement from camera in playback or record mode.
My another problem I brought the camera in Osaka, Japan.
and now I am in India.

any suggestion?

The alcalines supplied with the camera are pretty useless, I only got a couple of shots out of them (though more than 1...). Try some fully charged NiMh batteries instead. My 2500 mAh set lasts about 500 pictures. If there really is a problem, call Canon. My warenty is good anywhere in North America, so it is possible yours covers Asia, but I don't know.

but within 1 shot can alkaline battries die.
or there will be contact problem in the slot.
The battery cover getting tight (tough) while closing.
It should be smooth as per my knowledge.

When you close the battery cover door make sure the lock slide is closed all the way. When mine was new the slide would only close to the center on it's own. After changing the batteries a couple of times it got to were it would slide all the way closed. So just look to make sure it is not sitting in the ceter of it's travel.

Mine lasted about 20 shots, but these are really cheap batteries, and yours might have been defective. Also, it's not unusual for cheap batteries to vary in length so one of them might just be too short for a good contact. The cover on mine does need to be pressed down a bit to close, which is fine with me, since it helps getting a good contact.

I really suggest you try other batteries, even good alkalines, before sending your camera back to Canon. In any case, you will probably nedd to invest in a good set of NiMh batteries and a charger eventually (in fact, I strongly suggest you do), so why not now?

Thanks,
I will try with new battries.
I am actually nervous as there might be something wrong or faulty.
Let's hope it's not.
