HI There

I've been so busy since I got back, so the photos have taken a little longer than usual. I've managed to post some starter galleries:

First of all, Boats:

http://www.slack.co.uk/Crete2006/2006_Crete_Boats/index.html

Second, paint markings - these are liberally splashed on all the footpaths - I guess that there is some method with respect to colours and tracks, but it's pretty hard to work out what they are!

At any rate, I like them, these were taken in different places and in different lighting:

I hope you enjoy these - there will be more!

Kind Regards

My only real time on Crete was spent in Matala 16 years ago............great fun if a little too much of a party! Met some great people and some amature criminals. Funny spot.

Great use of empty/neg space, as well as your typically well composed detail stuff.

A couple favs

Always a treat Jono

Absolutely fantastic. I love the colors, great composition. Ya sure you didn't sneak a couple from the Leica in :-). It's been a few weeks since I've picked up my E-1, perhaps I ought to blow the dust off of it and put it to use. -Norm

I agree, very nice pics! The whole area on the south side of Crete near the village of Chora Sfakia is quite spectacular, with the mountains falling into the blue-green sea, and actaully it's one of our favorite spots to go to get away from the "hustle and bustle" of the big city of Xania (pop. about 70,000 :-) on the northwest side of Crete.

Here's an example of what you have to put up with when you go there:

Pretty rough, but someone's gotta do it...

Matala is also a favorite of ours too, BTW :-)

Also, the black and yellow markings in your other pics show the location of the E-4 Pan European hiking trail, but I don't know if the others are quite as "Official" as the black and yellow spritzes, they may be more for locals.

There was someone here in the 60's leaving purple foot prints all around the University and surrounding area. Finally caught the guy - he had paint in a backpack running down a tube to some weird kind of shoes that would dispense them properly. He must have found a place that appreciated his work.

Some of the paint stuff is really kind of artsy - I like this one:

The white space stuff is interesting right off the bat (like the one you won the last Exhb challenge w). Adding another element adds a nice bit of tension and moves it out of the serene

This one I could watch go around the corner for quite a while - really a beautiful shot:

A very nice series - hope I catch the promised next batch :-)

Hi Charlie
Sorry to be so long in replying - I've been around!

I went to Matala over 30 years ago, and then the hippies had just left, leaving piles of rubbish and general nastyness - not much of a party! It's a beautiful place though.

Glad you liked the shots - we had a lot of fun!

kiind regards

Didn't have it then, but I think the idea of lugging around all that film might have put me off.
It's been a

Absolutely - every time I pick it up I fall in love all over again.

Hi There Kerbouchard

That's a nice shot of Sfakia - we usually stay a night there on our way along the coast. It's a wonderful spot. (I like Chania too though)

I liked that one too.

as Kerbouchard said, the yellow and black markings are the E3 - the coastal path - but there are many others, and in some places the stones are liberally spotted with different colours (I guess somebody knows what they mean!).

Wonderful stuff! Sounds like a great trip.

Nice galleries. Great colours. The water looks crystal clear on
some of those boat shots.
Hi there - glad you liked them, the water is sooo clear there - and mostly very deep, so there is a wonderful navy blue colour.

kind regards
