Aperture Contact Sheet Size

Is there a way to shrink the size of the PDF file generated when creating contact sheets in aperature? My saved PDF files are about 14MB-20MB each. i would like to have the abilty to send the PDF sheets to Clients, but many times the MB size is prohibitive.

Any solutions??

I have not gotten a chance to use Aperture yet, but I do know of a solution to make the file smaller without needing to buy Acrobat Professional.

Take you PDF and open it up in Preview then save it as a Jpeg and select the smallest/least quality setting. I did this to a file that was 4.6 MB in size and the resulting jpeg was only 544 KB in size. The quality was actually respectable on my photo test.

There also is an option in Preview to save as a PDF and under the second pull-down menu an option to reduce the size of the file BUT you have no control over this re-sizing and in my test it changed my 4.6 meg Jpeg file to a 4.6 meg PDF without size reduction and down to a 52 KB file with size reduction. The 52 KB file while very small was also worthless in quality.

I am sure there are many other solutions, this was my quick and dirty solution. Hope it helped.

Open the Colorsync Utility and look for the image size filter. You can reduce the size of images in PDFs by applying the filter.

Try compress PDF option under print dialog - select save as PDF and compress PDF from dropdown

I tried this and it ends up being the EXACT same size as just choosing Save as PDF...

What gives?

I took a 4.6 Meg Jpeg file and saved as a PDF and then as a Compressed PDF and the subsequent files were both the exact same size as the original Jpeg file. Any ideas why?

Thanks for the advice...

I reduced the large PDF from Preview...it worked. It's much smaller...but only 1 page of 7 seems to be saved as the smaller JPEG.

There doesn't seem to be a way to "select all" in order to save the other pages.
