My, My, What's the problem? It's just a general announcement type
article, not a camera review. The nyt is still one of the world's
best newspapers. What's your choice, The New York Post, USA Today,
or the Washington Times?

Haven't you been paying attention to what's been going on at the NY
Times in the last few years? Plagarism, phoney stories, false
sources, etc., etc., etc. have rocked this paper. The NY Times in
the past truly was a great paper but those days are long since
gone. Don't take my word for it...just do a Google search on the
paper's difficulties. Unfortunately and this little announcement
aside, the paper's a discredited joke these days.

That's OLD news. Corrective action has been effectively taken.
Where have you been? I read many newspapers and by comparison the
nyt is the best. I don't just do Google searches. Have you read it
and compared it to others? Or do you just rely on the right wing
press?

Who said anything about "right wing" (other than you, of course)? A
paper's only as good as its credibility and the NY Times these days
is fresh out. If you disagree, be my guest but that doesn't change
the state of affairs at the paper. Now let's get back to talking
about camera matters.

The intro line mentions a "professional level camera." Are you sure they mean the Canon G7? I always thought a pro level cam would offer RAW. My mistake.

Actually, you are wrong. The Panasonic FZ50 has 10 MPs, 12x zoom, manual focus and manual zoom, supports RAW, supports ISO up to 1600 (I think), has IS and an articulated LCD. MPs really are not that important, especially if they contribute (because of the small sensors) to increased noise. It is the combination of sensor and lens that's important.

On specs, despite the higher MPs, I would think that the Canon S3IS or the 710IS are probably superior cameras. I think that nothing really beats the S3IS's movie mode. It is better than most camcorders out there. In addition, it does not have any design boondongles like the position of the flash unit. In the G7, it is so ridiculously low that the lens barrel will interfere with it (and the early previews definitely picked on it).

Well, now, lets see... ummmm.. this is a toughy... oh! I got it!

I do believe that the G7 can take movies, right? And it can capture them at 30 frames a second, right? So that's 30 pictures in one second, so capturing 10 pictures in one second is clearly within the camera's ability.

And thus the reputation of Croatians is cleared once more.

the NY Times is regarded internationally these days as a ring wing tabloid - I thought domestically it had no credibility too - but there are some supporters I guess

Perhaps it's b/c there is real lack of choice or alternatives in the US?

This is just a case of the NY Times printing the tripe that Canon is feeding them.
