I tried the search, but was out of function, sorry. I tried to follow the firmware threads but apart from an imaginative or real advantage for VR lenses are there any other new features I should be worrying about e.g. counter for compressed nef sows the right number of remaining frames etc).

Thanks!

RE: the counter, no, because it already does show an appropriate estimate.

Got the lenses...Talent currently under construction.

If you own any of the Sigma lenses that were previously inoperable with the AF button on the back of the D200, that has been fixed on Nikon's side (as opposed to having to send your lenses in for rechipping).

I tried this with my 10-20 and the rear AF button now works with this lens. Nice...I had been stalling sending the lens in for the rechip effort. I haven't tried it with the 50-500 bigma yet, but have heard that it has the same result...

The counter DOESN'T show the appropriate number of shots in compressed RAW .. My counter shows 60 frames whereas the real number is close to 120 ... But what you are saying is that this hasn't been addressed??

Cheers

...the amount by which each image is able to be compressed is variable. A complex image would be compressed a lot less than a simple image (with large area's of clat colour like sky for example). It will only ever be an estimate and can never be accruate..

No it can't. But it can be a heck of a lot better than it is. It's using the uncompressed algorithm for the compressed files.

They fixed it on the D70s and it became pretty darned accurate.
They should use the same algorithm in the D200.
I find the image counter absolutely useless.

Yep agree, same with the D50 - the D80 is closer (Displays 81 for 1Gb) - 105 is about right as an average.. All three cameras need this addressing..
