While looking through my D80 user manual I found this entry under NOTICES.

"Notice for Customers in the State of California

WARNING:Handiling the cord of this product may expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Wash hands after handiling"

I am in Canada.. so I guess I should be ok!

Cheers

Shoot... I've been to California... am I at risk? :-p

Should I let him know about it? If he sells his camera will he be OK, or is this for life?

'Beautiful' - Ansel Adams.
(I'm quite sure he said that sometime during his life)

""Only girlie men should worry... ""

Why does lead induction through the skin only affect guys who wear dresses ;-)

On Page 231, Agendum iii it says. Strap. Do not put strap around neck as strangulation could occur.

One can't be too careful. And because of the US habit of persons suing anything that moves, one has to protect oneself from idiots without brains.

Come to think of it, it's an omission they do not warn against taking photos of people with the camera. Some dudes really don't like that...

On a seroius note; I wonder if Nikon is shipping the same D80 to Europe, as of July 1 manufactures can not no longer ship to Europe hazardous materials, including lead (ROHS).

Don't forget the warning on page 17: "When opening the diopter adjustment control with your eye to the viewfinder, be careful not to put your fingers or fingernails in your eye".

The D80 appears to be a very dangerous camera. If you don't put your eye out, or strangle yourself, you are bound to die from lead poisoning (at least if you live in California). Photography is a dangerous hobby!

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

It is funny that the states and cities that have the biggest problems with their citizens putting stuff up their noses have so much concern for every thing else the citizens do.
Can you super size my fries please...

Thanks all, I really needed a good laugh on this Friday!! It really made me chuckle. I'm in canada and don't seem to have any worries in taking my Nikon out for a walk. that's just tooooo great!!

Government to the point of stupidity methinks.

Wait for a year or two. Nikon manuals will contain the following,

"Warning to the residents of California"

Use of the in built flash unit on this device can potentially cause damage to the retinas of people or animals or birds or fish whom the aforementioned flash device is aimed at. Users of this device must explain to the subject of the use the potential risks and obtain the subjects written authorisation prior to discharge of the device. The written authorisation must be kept secure and available for inspection for a period of 99 years from the date of the use of the device."
