Olympus E330 LCD - disaster and recovery

Will it work on my nice black one?
Sure, but work in little circles moving them around. If you rub back and forth in straight lines, you will see them. Black shows scratches more I suspect. Silvo might be safer...

Bruce

procedure that I came across for removing the greasy smears is a piece of Scotch tape. Cut a piece a bit longer than the LCD and just apply to the LCD and lift off and the smears disappear. Try it!, and I feel you'll be equally amazed also.

I also use the "da Protector on all of my cameras ( even the E-1 ) and am impressed with it's clarity, durability, and resistance to scratches.

Anything's possible if you don't know what you're talking about.

Ya, but what you don't know is that the cleaner in the wet wipe is slowly corroding the ribbon cable to the display. lalala

;-)
Result?
My LCD now seems to be pristine, and doesn't have any scratches,
scuffs or anything on it. What's more, greasy marks seem much
easier to remove.

Moral?
If your E330 CCD seems to have scuff marks on it - try giving it a
thorough clean with some wet wipe!

Kind Regards

Cheers Tim. I will try Silvo first, but otherwise get a bulk order : )

Yes, thats great for the more matt finishes. I've still got an old Sony F505V at work which really shows finger marks, and Sellotape does the job nicely,

Hi There

I'm not talking about cleaning dirty LCD's, I'm talking about a coating that came on the E330 LCD when it was new, and which started to come off very quickly, making it look dreadful. It first started looking bad after a couple of weeks - after a month or so it was hard to read, and ANY grease on it at all made it impossible to read.

The wet wipe simply got rid of it - gone. Now I can clean it with a microfibre cloth or whatever. It now looks as good as it did when I unpacked the camera.

the problem was this horrible scratchy mess on the LCD which no normal cleaning method would clean - it really did look like it needed replacing (to the extent that I was going to send it off to BE replaced.

I thought it worth posting in case someone else had the same problem (I've never had it with any other LCD, including the E1, E500, D2x etc. etc.). As someone pointed out, this has also been discussed on a German website, so I'm obviously not alone.

kind regards

Jono,

Have you been able to determine whether this cleaning actually took off the anti-reflective coating? I've heard that strong cleanings of LCD protectors that have that coating can pull it right off. Yeah, you're left with a great clean surface, but without the coating. Just wondering if you could tell how that coating held up to the cleaning.

Thanks,
Wes

I couldn't find Silvo, but bought some Jonelle silver polish. Brought up my E-1 LCD protector nicely,

the first few days after getting the E-330. Tried cleaning the LCD with alcohol and other mild solutions, but with no success. Finally, I used some Novus Plastic Polish No.2 Fine Scratch Remover, applied with lens paper. Cleaned the LCD perfectly and have had no other proplems since.
