Finally found & purchased an 18-200 VR

Ok, understood. I am sympathetic to what happened to you. And I also understand how that would affect your feelings about your most recent BB experience.

Two things:

1. Don't expect anyone to agree you got a bad deal out of you recent experience. You will disagree, but I think most think it was wrong.

2. Given your prior bad experiences with them, why in the world would you give them even a single penny of your money, even if you got the deal you wanted? Why would you even set foot in the place?

If you knew BB screwed you in the past and you had a bad experience, why were you back in there sdoing business with them again? BB knows that no matter how badly they treat their customers (i.e, you) they'll come back. You're a great case in point and only serve to embolden their style of business practices. Good job. There are plenty of places that I don't shop at for that very reason...they don't get my money, no matter what their prices are. Do you really believe that BB didn't make a profit selling to you?

Guess who is laughing now...

The only reason I was there was because I have to walk through the BB to get to my local Ritz Camera where I was headed to pick up a 50 1.8. I usually never stop but I though I'd check seeing as I'd been waiting so long for an 18-200. No I don't feel I got a bad deal I was sharing my story with others so they may be able to get an 18-200 at suggested list instead of $150.00 over....

I am amazed that some are hanging out the crying towel for poor ol' Best Buy. You got a hard-to-find lens at a price that BB was willing to sell it for and you were willing to pay-- an arm's length transaction between informed participants-- enough said. Sometimes one deals with parties who may be somewhat objectionable... such is life. You played the negotiating game and won. Nobody held a gun to BB's head to sell it at a price you found palatable. Good for you-- enjoy that prized tool!

As you go thru life, don't forget to stop along the way to smell the roses.

I must agree with you 100%. Car dealers set their price up in that situation when a new and very popular car comes out. Now, I have the option of paying the price for the car or walking away and I always walk away. My last car that I just purchased a few months ago, I went onto the internet and found out what the average selling price was for that car through out the United States. I walked into my local dealer and offered to write him a check for the average selling price of the car. He tried his best to get me to come up in price and to even get me to purchase a car of the very same color with fewer options on it. I turned to walk away and they ask me to come back and accepted my price. That is the way that I do business.

Now if he ask Best Buy to match the price of his local dealer and that was the local dealer's actual selling price, then I see no harm in it. I do that all of the time, I will look at something that is being sold onj sale at a different store on another side of town that I do not feel like driving to and I will go into Best buy since they do price matching and ask them to match that price, that is their own store policy. Now if that was not actually the selling price of the lens and his salesman gave them some fictitious price then I do see a problem with it.

If there was nothing under handed about it and it was the actual price of his local dealer than all that I can say is congratulations on the purchase of your new lens.

I went into my local dealer a few weeks ago and found my lens for $699.97 the very same way, they just happened to have it in the back room. Now there was a dealer who was selling it for $.02 less but I really did not wish to wait on it for a back order, and I did not feel like asking them to do a price match.

Moral integrity? Uscrupulous? Best Buy is no Wal*Mart no they are
worse? Best Buy is the one being dishonest here not me. How come BB
can offer to sell you a 18-200VR for $749.00 the going rate at
every other legit dealer but they are trying to **** me at $899.00?
Right and I'm being unscrupulous because I had them do a price
match with a real retailer who will sell me an 18-200 at the price
I paid BB?

Perhaps you guys either work for BB or need a dose of reality like
the link below. Spend some time reading the customer complaints
listed by the month and year and I think you'll have a far better
understanding of Best Buys "unscrupulous" behaviour. This stories
on BestBuySux.org is why I don't feel bad, unscrupulous or like my
moral integrity has been diminished. Get a life and go back to
up-selling customers into your "scam" BB warranties so you can get
you .50 cent per sale Best Buy bonus.
Agreed. To hell with Best Buy and all other businesses like them. I am sick to death of getting ripped off. If they would charge the proper amount for the item to begin with, then customers wouldn't come up with "unscrupulous" tactics.

I have to agree with you there!! I had a bad experience with Circuit City in which I was given a gift certificate for Circuit City. I went into their store and wanted to purchase a CD player. Well the one that I wanted was more than the gift certificate and I had to add some of my own money to it. Well when I got it home, the CD player worked for a day and for some unknown reason it stopped working. I took it back to Circuit city with my receipt and told the girl at the return counter that I wanted to replace it. I went to their wall that they had it on and they did not have one...I ask her to check the other stores and see if she could find one, but they were completely out. Rather than take something else that I did not want I ask her to just return it and to place what was from the gift certificate back into a gift certificate and what was on my bank card back onto my card. The girl looked at me after I had told her what I wanted her to do and then she began to work on my return. Well when she was done, she handed me a gift certificate for the full amount. I explained to her that was not what I wanted her to do and she laughed at me. Well I demanded that the manager of the store come over and deal with this. He came over and told me that he was very sorry, but there was nothing that he could do. Well I decided that there was something that I could do; I went off on them in their store. Customers started watching me who were at the return counter and gathered around to see what was going on and some of them agreed with me that they should do what I ask them to do. Well in order to shut my mouth which can get loud at times, the manager went into his own pocket and pulled out the difference as that young lady stood there over to the side and watched. Well after he gave me the difference, I turned to the young lady and asked her "well, now who is laughing now?” I never returned to that store or any other Circuit city store, and at this time that specific store has closed their doors in our fair city for good, I am not saying that they closed for that specific incident but they are closed.
Guess who is laughing now...

Now you have opened a bucket of worms. This is a PHOTOGRAPHY FORUM, do you think that photographers charge a very small mark up over their cost for their work or do you think that they charge what the MARKET IS WILLING TO PAY? You can not say that BB should only charge a suggested price for their goods, and then turn around and sell your good for what ever you can get out of them no matter how much it is marked up over your actual cost. I have to disagree with you there; if the market is willing pay your price then let them pay it. If the market is not willing to pay your price then you had better lower your price in order to sell your gods sold and that is just what BB did. I look at e-bay and lenses on there are selling for outrageous prices, but that is what their market is willing to pay. It is what is called SUPPLY AND DEMAND in our country.

You can look at the price of gas, supply and demand, either you pay it and drive or you refuse to pay it and walk. No negotiation there.
