You can certainly find some strange things when walking through the woods. This is one I found a few weeks ago. Never seen anything like it before.

And this one looks like it should be growing in the ocean!

cool shots, how did you use the flash, in-camera, external etc ?

btw, here is one than zipped by my camera :-)

The spelling errors might not be related to dyslexia or using a second language, but it could be, just errors, a bit like my photos.

Thanks for looking and commenting. That purple one really looks like something underwater. That was my first thought when I saw it.

Wow! Does that mean I'm gonna be rich and famous now????
Maybe not rich but perhaps more enlightened when and if you visit the Planet Dacron 5. Heheheheh....I know not what I speak as I don't watch much if any sci-fi type shows/movies (except for those Star Trek movies). My, my...that is quite a find indeed. Most elaborate looking mushroom I've seen......how big is it?
Thanks for looking.

Used external flash. The white one was with the flash on a bracket, with the omnibounce on it.

The purple one was taken with my 400mm lens and the external flash mounted on the shoe with a beamer on it. (that just happened to be what I had when I saw that one in the woods (was bird hunting). When I walked past that, I backed up and took a picture of it.

Now that's neat!! What is it, do you know? Never seen a creature quite like that, and I thought we had some strange ones around here! You REALLY do find strange things in the woods, don't you? LOL

I don't watch them either, so I know not of what you speak. :> )

The white one was probably about 7-8 inches tall overall, maybe 5 inches diameter. Thanks for looking!

Great. We both understand not what the other is speaking. I know one thing......THAT is NOT the "Orb of Enlightenment".....heheheheh ;)

Interesting. I'll try and look it up on that mushroom site I linked in my mushroom post.

I need to go look on that site and see if I can find it.

Maybe one of us should have just started a thread titled "let's see your mushrooms". I'm sure others out there have some strange ones too. LOL

Thanks, Shutterbug! How's it going with your new macro lens and the
100-400?
The 100-400 is a challenge, not as many keepers, got a lot of help on a thread I had going on the lens forum (long and lots of pics), didn't know how to ping you and modem was down for a week, burned my stuff on cd and went over to my son's in order to post.

I haven't tried the S105 yet, too much going on, I don't have any neat fungus like that :-). Just an excuse. I'll get around to it, am a little afraid of it with all the options. Stupid not to test it out, hate to change lenses. Had my hands full with the 100-400 and things that don't relate to photography.

Here's a squirrel I shot yesterday at 400mm handheld. The light has to be really good to get anything with that lens or you have to boost ISO, open up, exposure comp, etc. Under the squirrel is a shot my granddaughter (22) took this afternoon, she was so funny going around the hood with that 20D and big lens, thought she was really cool, she decides she is going to MF, yeah wasn't a good plan, you don't tell her how to do her thing. She is so cute. I trust her with my cam for short periods, not to take overnight, she keeps the strap around her neck. She WILL use AF next time :-). Wonders since her eyes are so good why it didn't work out so well.

Quite a bit of pp on both, didn't get her shot straight enough to suit me but she needed to leave . . .I set the exposure too high, but still she got too slow shutter speeds, late afternoon and overcast, f8, we are learning.

I am constantly fighting to get fast shutter speeds, what is the formula? Thought it was 1 over the focal length divided by 2? Or is it 1 over the focal length X 2?

NIce grandma to let her play with your lens. How old is she? Grown?
Nice one of the squirrel. I'm sure you can find some tiny creatures to shoot with that Sigma. When I got mine a few years ago I think I shot every housefly in the area practicing.

I think it's normally x2

22, in college, wants to take a photography course but they require a dslr. That's where I had to draw the line :-).

I'm fighting low energy level as well as slow shutter speeds. I'm sure there is plenty I can find. I'm afraid to put it on, will my fill flash work, should I use it, shut up ShudderBug, put the dang thing on, get off the computer, go try it out. You wouldn't believe the list of things I should do to get used to the 100-400, got some excellent advice BTW. I'm afraid my pitchers (deliberate) won't be as nice as yours.

That's what I was afraid of :-(. Boy do I have a long way to go . . .I am having such fun with that 100-400 when I can get out with it.

Just to make you happy, I'll try to get few test shots before the weekend is over and get back to you re the S105 if you promise, cross your heart skip the hope to die not to laugh! I don't know how to set it up. Don't tell me. I'll surprise you. Then you can kindly tell me what I did wrong.

And I don't want to have to take time out to clean the sensor filter!!!
