I'm buying a new body soon, and am considering the 400D and 30D.If I buy a 400D.....from B&H......and find it unsatisfactory(for example IQ not good at high ISO...or dust removal doesn't really work),will they take a return and let me trade up to a 30D(+ the $$ difference,of course).

Or does the camera have to be actually "broken"?If they allow such a return/exchange,what is required as far as packing the body(does it have to be such that you can't even tell it was tested?).Thanks for help!

I don't know about that kind of exchange but when I bought an L lens and it didn't focus right, they sent me prepaid postage to return it and sent another one back to me. They are VERY good to do business with! I would call them and ask about that before ordering.

Here's my understanding, but just call them to be sure...

During the return period you can return if your not happy, its that simple.

The item needs to be in the condition it was received. If you just changed your mind or don't like it, then you should pay the shipping. If it was sent to you defective then BH will work with you.

At least thats what I found, and I go back there everytime because of there excellent policies.

Around the beginning of the year, I bought and returned two different lenses from B&H. One was an early 70-300 IS that had the soft-in-portrait-mode issue. The other was a Sigma 10-20 that may have been a bit soft. But the real reason I returned it was because I realized that I don't like the ultra-wide focal lengths, and this is what I said when I requested an RMA. In both cases B&H accepted the return and issued me a full refund.

Read their return policy to see what they consider acceptable condition. I think with a camera, it probably would be a good idea to chase down a PDF of the manual (if possible) so you don't break the seal on the manual's shrink wrap. But I think the main no-no is to not fill out the warranty card. (Duh!) Or do any other kind of damage.

B&H is one of the best stores to deal with. They eventually made money on me, because I eventually bought two Canon flashes from them and a bunch of accessories. I haven't had any problem returning (for a refund) anything that I'd reasonably expect to return. (I haven't tried to return anything that I wouldn't expect to be able to return.)

B&H is very reputable for sure. I've bought several things there.

One question: I have a lens that I am considering to return due to the "back-focus" and maybe something else wrong. Do you think they would exchange for another copy of the same lens, even though it's been a couple of months since I bought it?

-A.

I'm guessing not. But this is probably just as well. You'd probably get better results having Canon (or whichever manufacturer) calibrate/fix it, than playing another round of lens roulette.

But you'd need to ask B&H to be sure.

Of course you're right, although the manufacturer calibration route is a long process.

B&H, I am guessing, handles this case by case.

Thanks for your input,
