The release of EOS-1Ds is still alive.

I think what he may be trying to say is Canon will decide if they want to announce the camera and show a body at Photokina, knowing the product won't be available until the spring. No doubt Canon would like to make more of a splash at 'kina, but announcing a camera way ahead of availability brings its own problems.
I heard that in Japan many people believe the release of such a new
product in this week. It depends on CANON Japan's decision this
week.

The Next 1Ds has been tested for months in the field. Its just like the 1D mk2N so there wasnt any need to disguise it other than labeling it 1D mk2n. the camera has been ready for a while now. It will be out at photokina. Most people that can also confirm this are under heavy duty NDA's and some have blown smoke to detract some of the rumors and speculation even though its pretty onbious the New 1Ds is coming this month. Rather predictable actually.

The other models that "replace" the 30D, 5D and 1D mk2n will be released in 2007 most likely. Thats why Canon released the 30D and mk2n to buy a little time. They introduced the 400D as soon a sposible however since its in probably the most competitive and largest selling $$$ segment of the market.

They will use the New 1Ds for bragging rights at Photokina 2006. It will spearhead the release of the next models in 2007. It will incorporate some features of the 400D + a few new tricks.

One thing I will say for sure is that I have absolutely no clue what successors will be introduced when. However, for what it's worth, I wanted to say that I do very much enjoy the reading the opinions and speculation people have expressed in this and the many similiar threads. Not to also mention the occasional wit and humor. Certainly generates much excitement and anticipation of what gear will be forthcoming!

Could you tell us (or bet) what few new tricks will be incorporated in the new eos1?

If we may believe the French magazine "Chasseur d'Images", there will be no new dslr announcements from Canon on Photokina. And in general, they are very well informed. I guess we'll have to wait until PMA 2007.

Canon arrives at Photokina with empty hands - or with just a little point & shoot camera ?

I was mistaking: It was not Chasseur d'Images, but Réponses Photo, also a French Magazine, and in general very reliable. According to them, there will be 39 new products from Canon on Photokina: the most important:

1 reflex (400D), 2 lenses, 3 Powershots, 5 videocameras, 4 scanners, 9 printers, and a beamer and a few Ixus's. And they claim there will be nothing else. But of course, they can be wrong also, can't they ?

Anyone recall Canon ever release a dSLR this close or during a show?
I dont recall, and it does not seem the best marketing?

I'd think you'd want to generate interest before the show, so people show up with excitement looking for more details...

'Guys (and girls),

I just did some investigation in the DPP/ZoomBrowser shipped with the XTi/400D.
Guess what I found

deImgT72.dll (ZoomBrowser) - GNU 'strings -a' output:
Canon EOS-1DX
EOS D6000C
EOS D2000C
Canon EOS-1DS
Canon EOS-1D
Canon EOS D60
Canon EOS D30

Those are some of the strings included in that specific dynamic library file. The string "Canon EOS-1DX" can also be found in other .dll-files / Canon .dll-files.

I ran a cross-check on the previous ZoomBrowser EX version and could not find a single reference to even only "1DX".

So, if someone can tell me which parameters, needed by an application, that are not contained directly in the camera raw file, maybe I can find out more by deeper digging in the dll files ... it would be even better, if here is someone on the board with better experience in debugging windows-DLLs, as I´m focussed on linux software development (elf-libraries).'

The Lord knows what the D6000c or the D2000C are - we were chatting about the possiblity of of Canon bringing out some sort of EVF, rangefinder-substitute 'New Brand'

Note that all those cameras except the supposedly new "1DX" are older cameras, pre .cr2, .crw file types. Different routines are needed to read the older file types, than the newer ones.

Personally, I'm not putting any stock in that 'evidence'. Not to say it is impossible that "X" could be the nomenclature of the season...

It sounds Nikon! No wonder the rumor of Nikon taking over the weakened Canon, that spend all resources to stay on top, so bad that it ran out of steam.
