Hey gang, went to the Ueno zoo the other day with my bud Michael. He just bought a Canon 30D/50mm 1.4 lens so he brought that. I slapped the 77 on my K100D to see if I could make some magic and this is what I came out with:

Mike says "Hiii!"

Man feeds the homeless

This was THE wierdest bird...he didnt move a muscle.

There were wild Ferrets (taken through glass)

Even wild cats!! Look at those claws!!

Michael and that even Canon!

My bud Chris, yes he is a wild animal too. (taken with 31)

And last but not least...The one-eyed Flamingo!!! Love that bokeh.

Let me tell you this, SR save my but on many of those shots because it was a gloomy cloudy day, but the pics came out rather nice. No sharpening except for that ferret!

Hi Doyle. I really like them all very much. But I especially like the ferret. Great job with a great lens. Thanks for showing.

You like the ferret? Wow I really liked the flamingos. Its funny how animals at the zoo will pose for you for the longest time.

Great images.

Two small corrections however: image #3 is a Shoebill Stork and image #4 is a Meerkat -- and both are African natives :-)

Nice shots Doyle! :) Yeah, cloudy days definitely make shooting hard, especially regarding the colours and brightness.

The ferret is really cool :). I like the position of the cat as well haha. And last but not least, the flamingo one really has this cool look to it. It may have been through some leaves but it takes a short while before realising what's going on... it almost looks as if everything else around it is moving, whilst the flamingo in the middle is taking a stance of command lol. My imagination going wild? Maybe :D.

I am planning on moving to shoot with the limited's (77 will be here from B&H on Monday). I do plan on getting the others but feel with the conversion that I need lower that 31 for the Chicago city shots. (I shoot downtown at lunch to help clear my head).

I someone had the 31, 46 and 77. If you were to go wider would you go 16, 12-24 or 21?

I think I have gone LBA - OCD!

I have the DA 14mm which is plenty wide for me and at f2.8 it's plenty fast too. You might want the versatility of the 12-24, which I understand is pretty good.

It happens to anyone who hangs around this forum for long enough. ;^)

Well, for the record, I thought the flamingo shot was awsome.

We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it—and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove-lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove-lid again—and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one any more. - Mark Twain

I thought it was a meercat.

well the DA21 probably wont be wide enough for downtown shots of buildigs. I expeimented with that combo and quickly abandoned taking pics of building because it would require me to buy a 4th lens (to get the pics I want), and ended up taking this pic the same night:

I think you'll probably want wider than that.

Heres another 21lmt sample

Personally I'd go with the DA14 since I prefer primes over zooms.

Hi Doyle!

The meerkat, the orange and white kitty are just fantastic. The others are great as well, but those two just stood out to me! Hope to see more!

Hi Tracy,

Thanks a lot. I didnt expect the meerkat to be such a cool shot. I guess that sharpunmask in PS helped! I'll be posting pics from some gardens in Tokyo later this week. Thanks again ^ ^
