My September issue of Rangefinder is here and John Rettie has this to say at page 90:

"An Olympus official told us word from Japan was that the new 'E-2' pro level camera would be shown under glass at Photokina."

That's good enough for me.

The only question I have is whether he's right about the E-2 instead of E-3.

I don't care what they call the camera. E-2, E-3, E-3.14156 (the E-PI). The name will have no bearing on my puchase of the camera, only features and spec will drive that decision.

Isn't there already an Nikon with an E2 designation?
Google is your friend! Nikon E2 Digital SLR Camera, 1996.

"Nikon's first own labelled digital camera is the E2. Developed with Fuji, I know it is kind of surprise to you, because Kodak has been jointly developed digital bodies using Nikon SLR bodies (The F-801 was the first) as early as the late '80 and early '90."

I should have been more precise. I wonder if the Olympus people used the name E-2 when talking to Rangefinder, or if Rettie, just used that name for lack of more information. By the way, Rettie seems unusual amongst photography journalists in that he does not have the usual bias against Olympus.

E-T !!!!! :)

E2 was a Nikon & Fuji camera, it had both names on body. So I'm not sure the E2 name belongs to Nikon alone.

And after 10 years being out of production, there is no risk of confusion between the two cameras

E-Pentium ?
No, E-PI. As in the math constant that is used in circle calculations. 3.14159 is PI accurate to 5 decimal places. I actually had the last digit wrong in the original message. Ooops.

Digital Depot in the UK seem to consistently refer to the replacement as the E-2,

Bruce

when I was told about the E-400 by the store clerks and they had that right... so maybe.

But then again they also told me that the 400 would be 8 mp's and that the E-2 would be introduced and for sale then or shortly after. Now the generally excepted thought is there will be a none working mock up.

So who knows untill it really happeneds

It all started long ago and far away with a lowly OM-G

That should wake up some of the old film club.
