DMC-FZ50 for $599

Nah.. he seemed happy with it. ;)

My mood just went out of the window. I was so happy/excited this morning, until I saw the new price.

Oh well, lesson learned... next time I'll jump first and ask question later.

Roger said he got one with that price. :) ask him

Hi Roger & Joesiv,

Can you guys kindly confirm that cameracanada only charged you $493.35 for the FZ50? I would like to get back to them if that's the case. If you guys don't mind, can you please email me your order number? I just feel that is not fair if they could honor that price to "some" people but not all. Thanks again!!!

(Really angry here)

I got an email this morning saying my order was cancelled. I phoned them and they said that a "computer error" had posted the wrong price and they have cancelled all the orders they recieved over the weekend.

Later in the day I got another email explaining the first email and offering to sell it to me for $650 as "compensation" for my inconvenience.

I was of course quite disappointed when I got the first email, but when I stopped and thought about it for a minute, I realized that they were well within their rights to cancel the order. Let's say they had listed it for $5. It seems obvious that they should not be liable for such an error. What about $100. Same thing. So where do you draw the line. At under $500, they could be losing $100 or more per camera. If several hundred people ordered cameras at that price and they had to sell them at the price quoted, they could stand to lose $10,000, $50,000 or more.

I felt that they were quite generous in offering it at $650 which is a lot less than I could get it anywhere I tried in Toronto. So I'm going to take them up on their offer.

I was extremely skeptical, thinking maybe they mixed up the FZ50 with the FX50, which probably would have been about that price... maybe... I don't know... they don't list that camera at all.

Strange thing is that price of $493.35 just didn't sound right anyhow, for any camera, really.

I was so tempted to order over the weekend for the approx. $467 USD (shipped), because that's the around the lowest price I was finding for the FZ30.

Hi Connollymk and the others:

I received the same email with the $650CAD offer also.

But before that, I received an "Updated Order Confirmation" email that the price was changed form $493.35 to $799.99 with NO no explaination.

I called them, and one of the salespersons told me that it was a price error. But if the "correct price" was ok, the order would be processed as usual; otherwise, cancel the order would be the other, and only option I had. I had no choice but cancelled the order on the phone.

After the call, I thought of it all over again. If I didn't make that phone call and clarified the order myself, they would have shipped the order to me for $799.99 without even bother to make a phone call to me and explain the price error incident.

Sure enough. I was disappointed about the deal. But I didn't expect it would go through anyway in the frist place. What made me so upset about is the way they handle this.

I feel like it was a scam. Place an order now for this lower price. Two days later, send you an email for their "regualar price" without explaination. And then you call them, either take their "regular price" or cancel it. Afterward, receive a discount price on the camera. I feel like was being played.

I think I will take their "new offer" just of the saving I will get. HOWEVER, I believe we should file a complaint at the Better Business Bureau of Western Ontario to protect our rights also.

Just to share my thoughts here.

Thanks for "listening"

Stephen

Ah well, I knew it was too good to be true.

Gave it a shot anyway. Knew that my only chance was if they shipped it out before they found out about the pricing error. However, since they had no black ones in stock, there was little chance of that happening.

Maybe I"ll get a D50 kit instead.
