Hi folks,

I normally don't contribute to topics of this nature, but I know some of you are desperately waiting for a new cameras so when I read the newsletter I thought I'd post some of it here, because I am not sure how many of you read normally read it.

Has it really been three months since the last newsletter? I'm afraid so.
Well, you didn't miss too much, as the summer months are usually pretty
quiet as camera announcements go.

That is about to change, though. This September is the big Photokina show
in Germany, and it'll bring with it many new cameras. Without going into
specifics, I can tell you that there will be a number of 10 Megapixel
point-and-shoots (something that I'm not thrilled about), a few D-SLRs
(including one with live view), and the return of a camera model that I
thought was gone for good.

The craziness starts this week, so keep your eyes on the DCRP homepage for
the latests and greatest!

Sounds good to me ;-)

(I like live view and I like unconventional cameras)

The E3 is the camera that has gone for good
Without any doubt the "return of the camera model that I though was gone for good" is the Leica M8.

I don't like rangefinders at all but I am still curious how a digital M can ever be an M... it being electronic will remove all M-ness from it, in my opinion. What's next, a digital Rolex watch?

The E3 is the camera that has gone for good (the Nikon E3) and the
camera with LiveView will be an E500 with the Pany sensor, possibly
with more res, and LV mode B.
Who says that it is an Olympus DSLR.

It could also be the Canon "start of a new legend" DSLR that should be introduced in three days.

Sounds logical to me.

Hmm, I was expecting a suprise :'-(

Much has been written about the G6 being the last of the series. Yet some rumors persist that Canon was reevaluated that decision and will continue the series. If it does, I'm getting one of those. But only time will tell - we could all be wrong here.

Have a great day!

Hi Lourens

I think your right on the M8 as its scheduled for it's 1st appearance at the show and all of the guys at the Leica forum are anxiously waiting to see it in the flesh.

... back from Holidays in SA.

Methinks the resurrected name will be Contax.

"The E3 is the camera that has gone for good". Olympus will never, ever produce a pro camera again. They got the format (i.e. size of the sensor) wrong, and hence will never be able to compete with larger-sensor cameras that will emerge within the next few years from ALL other dslr manufacturers. 4/3 will (if it survives) become a niche (but still lucrative) market.

Like the E and TTL but Digital - still full manual and taking M42 lenses of course, it's rumoured to use the old 1DS 11Mp CMOS (they bought the old chip fab from Canon) and shoot RAW only..

Do you think the exact border between "pro" and "no-pro"
is 22.5mm (APS) versus 18mm (Fourthirds).

I doubt these definitions like "pro" "nonpro" but to
make these 4.5 mm the exact border between pro/non-pro
whereas there are sensors from 6mm to 60mm is the top of all nonsense.

And despite that my opinion is, the lens is the important thing, not the film
