My little travel bag is a Tamrac 5371.

I've got the following:

EOS-20D body
Canon EF 24-105 F4L IS USM
Canon EFS 10-22 F3.5-4.5 USM
Tamron 28-75 F2.8
1x 77mm Circular Polarizer
2x SanDisk 1.0GB UltraII CF cards
2x BP511A Canon Batteries
Canon Travel Charger with European socket adaptor
EOS-20D Product Manual + Starter Guide
Cleaning Kit: Zeiss lens spray, lens-safe cloths, air bulb, lens-safe brush

In terms of my lenses, I know a good prime is missing. My experiments with the Sigma 30 F1.4 were not too good. I may try another one or wait for that Canon EF-S 30mm F1.4 or Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM MkII...if ever made!

In the short term, I plan on adding one SanDisk 2.0GB UltraII CF card, two more 77MM filters, one bubble level for the hot shoe, and maybe a Canon SpeedLite 430EX. I also often travel with a tripod.

What am I missing?

(I know many will say I am missing a telephoto, but I don't think I need one. A faster prime lens, yes. 200mm or 300mm telephoto, no.)

I have a Slinger and am planning on buying the Tamrac 517 for my trip to the Mediterranean on October.

XT
17-55 IS (which will be my primary lens)

70-300 IS (for shooting on the ship, but probably will stay on the ship for tours)
430 EX (on the ship)
A620 (dining room maybe??)
Vosonic (60gig) plus two 1 gig cards
batteries/charger/converter
cables for viewing pictures on the TV (Vosonic)

Anything I am missing??

I will take all in my Slinger and use the Tamrac for tours. If anyone can recommend another small bag that will fit the 70-300IS, I would appreciate it.

I was seriously considering just taking the A620 or even buy an S3, but then I know I would be missing my XT.

I'll only take one lens if I'm travelling by bike, almost always the 15-30 but I'll bring the tripod with it.

I've got five batteries, and at this point 3 GB of Compactflash, although that needs to go up by a lot. If I'm going on a real trip ( say taking the train up to Vancouver ) I'll take all of the juice I can. Otherwise, I don't think it'd be possible to use more than two batteries to fill 3 GB.

my travel kit starts out similar to yours
EOS-20D body
Canon EF 24-105 F4L IS USM
Canon EFS 10-22 F3.5-4.5 USM
2x BP511A Canon Batteries, charger
1x 77mm Circular Polarizer
above are all same except make that a thin MC CP filter

depending where I go, I sometimes also bring EF 70-300mm DO IS, however it stayed behind this month's trip to Hawaii
other stuff:
a single SanDisk 1.0GB UltraII CF card
Epson P-2000 (40GB) - sometimes 2-3 other family members dumping files to it too

blower bulb, lens pen, sensor brush, microfibre cloth, lens hoods, mini AA penlight

LowePro Stealth Reporter 200AW bag + 2-3 SlipLock accessory pouches - mainly for transporting extra stuff as carry-on during the flight, usually leave the pouches in the hotel while out and about - except for waterbottle holder which is essential in hot locales :)

550EX, tripod, primes and other lenses usually stay home during vacation/travel - I prefer to travel light as possible.
happy summer travels!

I just spent a week backpacking in the Sierras with:

20D
10-22
100/2.8
300/4IS
1.4xII
MR-14EX
Gitzo 1128
Kirk BH-1
+ 2 spare BP511A's and 5 GB of Sandisk Ultra IIs

total weight 15 lbs. Next time something's staying home....

My new (used!) Mamiya RZ67, 65 and 90mm lens, tripod, and my Canon 20D as an exposure meter. Oh yeah - a good pack to carry it all in the North Carolina woods.

I'm going backpacking.

So in my Lowepro Orion Trekker goes:
  • 5D
  • 16mm fisheye
  • 17-40
  • 24-105
  • 55-200
  • Hoya SHMC Pro1 77mm C-polarizer
  • 2x 4GB cards. 1x 2GB card
  • 80GB Vosonic VP8360 imagetank
  • 2x extra batteries
  • one sensor brush.
  • one microfibre cloth
  • one small air blower
In the big backpack goes the chargers

And that's basically it. I hope I didn't forget anything.

Forgot to mention the 220EX flash, since the 5D has no internal popup flash. :)

It's hot here (30 C / 86 F and upwards most days) with pretty high humidity, so my everyday bag is down to a bare minimum.

Canon Ixus 400 (S400)
2Gb CF card
Spare battery

which is quite enough to haul around!

But there's still life in the little marvel yet

i use a domke j3. i keep the 1d w/ 17-40 attached in the main compartment (or in my hand/over my shoulder), a 28/1.8 and 100/2 in one side pocket, a 550ex and off-camera cord in the other side pocket. i keep anywhere from 1-3 extra batteries for the 1d in the front pocket, and maybe some AAs for the 550ex as well, depending on where i'm going and how long i'll be there. if i know i'll need my sigma 100-300 f/4 then i'll bring it (vertically in the main compartment. that little bag holds a lot), but otherwise i usually don't cause it's too heavy to carry over my shoulder comfortably all day. i also keep a gray card in the flap pocket.

this is when i take all my stuff. usually i just go out with the camera and a lens (which one depends on where i'm going) over my shoulder.

come on!

I usually travel with a computrekker backpack loaded with a MacBook Pro, a Mark2, 24-70L,17-40L,35L,85 1.8 and a 135L, a RRS pano kit and tripod and numerous other support gadgets. Gets pretty heavy though.
