Lens cap survey

Funny you should ask, today, Zip! As soon as I put my Hoya UV
filter on my lens, the Sony cap just kept falling off. Before that,
it just got in the way, dangling around when I had more important
things to do than brush it aside. Today, for another $6, I bought a
no-name clip on lens cap that hugs my filters. oh well, as you
said, a useless, albeit humorous, question...
exactly..... see ...thats my problem too...i use a UV filter all the time on my 707 and these filters dont have enough front threading to keep the sony lens cap on....damn thing is always falling off.--cheersZip:P - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -BFS: NOSticker Status: ON...but on upsidedownPie Chute: UnCorked for the holidays - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I have the strap on the lens cap but it is getting a pain in the rear LCD as it keeps swinging and tapping against the 707. Still, better then losing it, I guess.

On the other hand, I do have a UV filter on to protect the lens, so I can dispense with the lens cap altogether and rely on only the lens filter...

Decisions, decisions... ;-)

Merry Christmas!

Ok....when you all first got your Sony cameras, there was a thin
black "Lens Cap Strap".
This strap, according to the manual, was supposed to be attached to
the cap then to the camera shoulder strap.

Who has actually done this?

my answer: NO lens cap strap...cap goes in pocket once i take it off.
con: almost lost it once...heehee

Seeing how cheaply a lost lens cap could be replaced (by Sony), I'd rather risk losing mine than have one more dingly dangly hanging from my camera.

bluedot.
There once was a time when I left mine unattached. Then I
misplaced it and couldn't find it for almost two days. I was a
wreck. When I finally did find it, I immediatley attached it as
per the instruction manual. Seeing how I aloso hate the dangling,
I too would cup iit in my palm while shooting.
I have since found a small metal snap ring and leave it attached to
the metal d-ring. This way when I really want it out of the way,
it snaps off easily.

lens cap Nirvana!

Mine stays on well. It's a Marumi (Japanese) UV filter and it's deep enough that the lens filter sits tight and snug.

Makes the lens barrel longer too... so maybe it does look phallic after all! :-D

When I first got the camera I had everything that could be strapped on...strapped on. But lately with all the rattle rattle clank clank, I have been removing stuff. Now the camera is without dangles. Like you I slip the cap into my pocket. I find I keep the camera on the tripod anyway as I walk around so all the straps just got in the way.--Shay http://f707.shay.ws

That's exactly what I do. In fact, the only reason I have the neck strap attached to the camera is because the lens cap strap attaches to it. I really would have preferred a wrist strap like the F505.
...there really is no PRO for leaving the cap off. My ca is on
whever i dont use my camera.I just dont have the lens cap
"strapped" onto the shoulder strap.
If it was strapped....the cap would be dangling as i take
pictures...that bugs me...dangling there

did you ever consider attaching the other end of the cap strap to the inside zipper of your case? perhaps getting a longer string if the supplied strap isn't long enough. this way your shoot is worry-free and dangle-free!!

happy holidays!

Uh... I use a Hoya HMC 58mm UV filter and the lens cap stays on just dandy.

Exactly what I do, thin string attached to left metal loop, left fingers gripping the cap and barrel. Also no shoulder strap, dangerous things they are.

I like the velcro idea. Keep the cap on the thin string, velcro to bottom of camera body, no more dangling, no more figer holding, no more losing in deep pocket, no unsightly velcro around the lens barrel.

.Ray
I do EXACTLY this also. It never dangles.
I have the attached where the strap would have gone (little metal
loop), but I HATE the strap. I find it is always getting caught up
in something... the bag, my shot, my hair. I never used a strap
with the 505 and will probably rarely need it with the 707, so I've
left it off. I may get one of that clip-on kinds just to have in
case I need it.

Amy
I don't let it dangle at all, especially if I'm pointing towards
the ground (at flowers, for example). Ever since the days with my
King, I'd developed a habit of popping the cap off, and then
cupping it in the proximal end of my left palm, leaving me plenty
of palm free along with my fingers so as to be able to hold the
camera with stability. I hadn't even thought about it until you
mentioned the question. I just do this automatically after the past
couple of years with the F505V.

About the sticker, are we talking about the wide(ish) sticker just below and to the right side of the flash? Looks quite well glued on, I have left it on, don't want to start taking it off only to leave horrible half torn sticker and glue on the lens barrel.

No strap, cap strung to left metal loop, in use held with fingers.

Like Shat, I like to be creative so I attached my lens cap to miniature, titanium hydraulic rams and added another button to the side of the camera. Now, when I want to remove the lens cap I just press that button and the lens caps slowly lowers off the lens. Putting the lens cap back on is just as easy. Press the button, and voila!! Up she comes.

Of course I suppose I'm going to have to check the oil lever in the hydraulics from time-to-time but I think that's a small price to pay for such convenience.

Oh yes, and the cost? Well, due to it's miniature size it was quite expensive. $4,287,79 Cdn. which of course is $6,860.46US

im also gonna do exactly as your doing. Im also looking for a big vinyl or leatherette bag to hood the camera when its on the tripod. Kinda like those "shoe bags" that women buy but without all the flowers...lol--cheersZip:P - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -BFS: NOSticker Status: ON...but on upsidedownPie Chute: UnCorked for the holidays - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
