Lens cap survey

i did exactly as i was told and i've hated it ever since. hate it
hanging from the strap. hate it. hate it. hate it. just waiting
until i have the time and patience to undo this ungodly situation.
Do you use the shoulder strap? I find that this gets in the way more than the dangling lens cap, especially when downloading from the camera. (Of course, if you use a reader, you would not be annoyed with the shoulder strap during downloads.) The shoulder strap is right where you grip the camera. Can't have everything...

How will you make your situation more godly?

Pro would be...for sure i wouldnt lose it. I just hate the fact
that it dangles so thats why i never attached it via lens strap.
Zipper,

I asked about the PRO to leave the cap off...
The dangling cap distracts you ?
...there really is no PRO for leaving the cap off. My ca is on whever i dont use my camera.I just dont have the lens cap "strapped" onto the shoulder strap.

If it was strapped....the cap would be dangling as i take pictures...that bugs me...dangling there
Sticker Status: ON...but on upsidedown
... No cap but stickers, you should tape the cap to the lens
barrel, or what about some velcro :))
Hey...that sounds like a good idea...may have to try that Velcro idea

Zip.

I never use that thread thingy. The dangling lens cap always gets in the way. Plus it looks too "touristy". I also removed all stickers immediately.

The cap goes in my pocket too. In fact I did lose the cap of my wide angle converter once that way and after a couple of hours, when I realized I did, I went looking for it all over the place.

I walked up and down the street several times with my back slightly arched staring straight at the ground. I must have looked like a huge pink duck to everyone.

When I did find it, it was in bad shape. It had been tread over repeatedly and was badly gashed and squashed.

Sony charged me $5 for a replacement which arrived a couple of days later.

I would gladly pay five bucks than have a piece of plastic dangling from my camera all the time.

yes folks...just like the sticker survey, this will be regarded as
highly useless info with only one purpose to drive up the STF post
count...lmao

Ok....when you all first got your Sony cameras, there was a thin
black "Lens Cap Strap".
This strap, according to the manual, was supposed to be attached to
the cap then to the camera shoulder strap.

Who has actually done this?

my answer: NO lens cap strap...cap goes in pocket once i take it off.
con: almost lost it once...heehee

.......and the really good thing about the DA is that if you turn it on without removing the cap..............the camera doesn't have an epeleptic fit and go into a coma. ROTFLMAO.

I don't let it dangle at all, especially if I'm pointing towards the ground (at flowers, for example). Ever since the days with my King, I'd developed a habit of popping the cap off, and then cupping it in the proximal end of my left palm, leaving me plenty of palm free along with my fingers so as to be able to hold the camera with stability. I hadn't even thought about it until you mentioned the question. I just do this automatically after the past couple of years with the F505V.

I've attached mine to the strap, as suggested, though I'm not sure I'm going to keep it there. I tend to think its a bit of an annoyance to have it dangling there. For years, when I was using a film slr, I kept the cap in some pocket or other and never lost it. I may yet go back to that.

And, for what it's worth, I don't use the Sony strap. I use a strap that's much wider and padded at the shoulder.

I have an S85 as was annoyed at the swinging lens cap.
This is what I did and it works perfect.

I put some velcro on the inside of the lense cap. (on my camera when I put the lense cap on it does not touch the camera lense)

Then I put some velcro on the strap about 3-4" up and I attach the lense cap to to velcro on the strap and it stays put.
I leave the string attachment on for added security.
I hope this made sense.

But I'll add a few more anyway. :)

Ulysses,

I do EXACTLY this also. It never dangles.

I have the attached where the strap would have gone (little metal loop), but I HATE the strap. I find it is always getting caught up in something... the bag, my shot, my hair. I never used a strap with the 505 and will probably rarely need it with the 707, so I've left it off. I may get one of that clip-on kinds just to have in case I need it.

I took a couple of plastic clips off another strap I had and fitted them to the Sony one.

Funny you should ask, today, Zip! As soon as I put my Hoya UV filter on my lens, the Sony cap just kept falling off. Before that, it just got in the way, dangling around when I had more important things to do than brush it aside. Today, for another $6, I bought a no-name clip on lens cap that hugs my filters. oh well, as you said, a useless, albeit humorous, question...

There once was a time when I left mine unattached. Then I misplaced it and couldn't find it for almost two days. I was a wreck. When I finally did find it, I immediatley attached it as per the instruction manual. Seeing how I aloso hate the dangling, I too would cup iit in my palm while shooting.

I have since found a small metal snap ring and leave it attached to the metal d-ring. This way when I really want it out of the way, it snaps off easily.
