Any Epson P-4500 owner here ?

Yep, had one for about a month. It's very nice. Fast transfer, gorgeous display. Can zoom Canon RAW raw files. Has played every video file I've thrown at it (although can't handle AC3 audio). Hard disk, CF and SD slots all show up as seperate drive letters under XP so you can drag and drop files around easily- also means it doubles as a card reader for the PC. Battery life seems pretty good - haven't done any stress testing yet though.

Of course nothing's perfect. As an MP3 player it leaves a bit to be desired, if you are playing audio and you go to do something else (e.g. transfer files) the audio stops playing. The audio user interface needs some work. The supplied Espon Link2 software is also quite poor, fortunately you don't actually need it since the hard disk shows up as a drive letter so you can just drag and drop files.

Regards,
Phil.

I took one for a spin in the Simpson Desert for 2.5 weeks. Dust, dirt, heat, cold, rough and tumble - never skipped a beat.

Dropped about 4,500 RAW files on it - around 30GB.

It's faster than the P-2000 / P-4000 and a better menu setup. It automatically prompts to download cards when inserted and really was a delight to use.

The screen, of course, is simply the best in glass by a country mile and sitting under the stars in the desert showing photos to others on the trip was fun and easy.

I didn't use it for MP3 or movies or the like, so I can't comment there. I've just used it as an image tank and it was flawless in that regard. Connecting back to a computer requires no software.

Battery life was also very good and reasonable recharge times.

Will it take a 10 megapixel JPEG file? I understand from the review here the P-2000 is limited to 8 megapixels. Thanks!

Does it take long to display a Canon RAW file ? to zoom in ?

If I ask it's because I've had a bad experience with the Jobo Giga vu pro... (not the evolution) not displaying RAW files in thumbnails and taking two minutes to display one.

Same speed as displaying/zooming JPEG files.
I believe it is actually using the embedded JPEG image within the RAW file.
JPEG files can zoom to 'fit on screen', 25%, 50%, 100% and 200%.
RAW can zoom to 'fit on screen' and 100%.

How would a warranty claim be handled on a Japanese purchased P-4500? Is an english version of the manual available online or inprint?

Could you tell me if the 4500 can copy files from its hard drive back onto a memory card? I ask because I have a feeling that on my upcoming vacation I may need to print a few photos locally (for family and friends) once I have transferred them onto the Epson.

Thanks.

As I understand it there is no international warranty with these, so you would have to send it back to Japan or pay for local service.

There are no manuals on any of the official sites, but you should be able to purchase one from Epson in the US.

the p-4500 is actually sold out in most stores here in Tokyo right now. I had to be put on a waiting list but am finally getting mine tomorrow! :P

It was ordered from Cyber-Japan on Ebay. I received it in the US in 7 days. Much like the P2000/P4000. I shoot mostly RAW and the 100% zoom on raw files is awesome. I haven't played much with the other features. The Raw zoom was the main reason for my upgrade.
Thanks
