S3IS minimum quality case for cam + 4 AA & one extra card

Is the Tamrac 5693 too small? What about any Lowepro? Don't need
space for phones, chargers, etc. Just the camera and 4 extra
batteries and 1 extra card.
Hi Gordon,

I use a Tamrac 5693 for the S3 IS exactly the way you describe. Camera in the main pouch, 4 AAs in the front pocket and an extra SD card in there too.

The S3 fits snugly but I think it fits perfectly; it doesn't require any coercing to get it in or out at all. I read on Amazon where some people found their S2 IS apparently didn't fit into the 5693; I don't see how this could be unless they received smaller cases for some reason.

Here are some very low quality photos of it going in (all I have besides the S3 is an old logitech webcam):

1/2 way in

all the way in

I use a Canon WS20 camcorder wrist strap instead of the included one.

HI

Just be careful when buying a snug bag. I had a S1 in a Lowepro bag and my S3 was a snug fit, but twice it turned on the viewer side of the camara when taking it out. Once when putting it in the bag which turned the S3 on with no room in the bag for the lengs to open. Could be a BIG problem.
Hope that helps John.

I used tamrac 5696 with my S1 with adaptor. Able to put in extra set of battery and 2 or more memorries card.
Not too big and fit just good.

Well, I did not find the Tamrac tonight (BB, CC or Ritz). So, now after reading the warnings here, which make sense, I am thinking of getting the Lowepro Edit 110 with adjustable partition. I can adjust it so that it fits in the width, and has just enough space if the camera gets turned on and the lens extends. So, it won't be so small; but will be smaller than my Lowepro Nova 3 by a large margin. How come things are never easy in the photo accessory world??? Like getting specific lens hoods for Canon EF and EFS lenses.

What is the Lowepro 10? Is that the Rezo 10 or some other 10? What happens in it if the lens extends? Is there room?

Many thanks again!

Gordon

You bring up a good point. I store my S3 so that the right side of the camera (where I have the wrist strap attached) is at the top. Although it's a snug fit around the deepest part of the camera, it would take quite a bit of effort & circumstance (and yes, it could happen) for the camera to unintentionally be turned on in record mode, as the power button is "press and turn" and, thanks to the protruding EVF, the entire switch assembly is recessed relative to the rest of the camera and therefore held away from the interior of the case to begin with.

I never had a problem storing my S1 in this bag either, although there was more movement available to it due to its smaller size. It actually seems like the S1 would be more susceptible to this with the way its power switch would constantly rest up against the edge of the case due to its ability to shift back and forth more easily.

Your warning is appreciated. I guess it's a risk you (I) take when trying to balance fit, size, and convenience/portability. It's always best to be careful when loading or unloading the camera from the case.

By "minimum" I mean in SIZE, not cost or quality.

Thanks!
