Hi Everyone,

I was up North this week and was able to get these shots of some baby Red-Tailed Hawks with Mama & Dad watching from close by.

The babies were hatched on March 20/06 so they are a month old. (They sure grow fast.)

It was a thrill for me to see Mother Nature working at her best.

I hope you enjoy them and comments/suiggestions are welcome.

Regards,

harveyf

These were shot with a 20D + Canon 100 - 400 mm L lens.
  1. 1 - This is one of the babies that I took several shots of.

  1. 2 - I was very happy that after a while the 2nd. baby emerged.

  1. 3 - I was even happier when they both appeared together. :-)

  1. 4 - I was hoping they would spread their wings and put on a show but it did not happen.

  1. 5 - Not sure if the is the Mama or the Papa but it was on this pole close by and watching the nest.

  1. 6 - This is the other Hawk watching the nest closely as well from another pole.

  1. 7 - He/She made a loud shrill sound to make sure I saw him/Her. I was hoping it would take off in flight but it did not happen.

Hello Fred,

I'm not sure what he was screaming but it was loud and shrill.

Awesome experience for me.

I went back today and got some pics of the Mother & Father in flight.

Will post them later.

Best regards,

harveyf

Hi T,

Thanks for the comments and they were anxious for me to leave.

I was wondering if there was any danger involved doing this. It crossed my mind that thay could swoop down and give me a tap on the head.

Have you heard of this happening ?

harveyf

Hi Harvey.

Never heard Ospreys do it, but Owls and Terns can get rather close if agitated. Younger I once whitnessed male Capercaillie attack our car (red Fiat 127) and my father, since he had to get out of the car to try to scare the bird from middle of the road. :D This happened during mating season.

Wow, what a neat opportunity! I like the ones with both babies in the nest showing. Plus you had a gorgeous sky to shoot against. It looks like you had a great day.

Hi Kit,

Thanks for the nice commments.

This was the first time I had the opportunuity to get these kind of birds in the nest, so it was very exciting for me.

I was hoping to see both chicks in the nest and as luck would have it they eventually appeared together. :-)

Best regards,

harveyf
