I ordered the camera from B&H's website on Saturday and just got an email with the tracking number. It is shipped out already. Now, I am just hoping that the camera arrives defect-free and with no pixel problems, which I have been reading about in this forum! To tell you the truth, I am getting a little nervous!!

Keep in mind that you are about 100 times as likely to hear complaints from those who have problems with their camera, than kudos from those who don't. I love my G2, and (knock on wood) have had no problems. Hope you enjoy your new camera.

I agree with Dan. The forum is like a microscope, where every little flaw is magnified. I'm sure if I photographed the back of my lens cap I'd find a few dead pixels, but I intend to photograph more than the back of my lens cap. A lot of the flaws are not a problem in real world situations or can be corrected the few times they are. We've never held film to the standards we expect from digital. I scanned in a print the other day that looked just fine, but when I got it in PS at actual pixel size, I was astounded at the defects I found. I closely examined the print and they were there, I just didn't notice them. Also, I think 99.9% good pixels on a 4 megapixel CCD is darn good. Canon could do better, but they'd have to throw away 999 out of 1,000 CCD's. I couldn't afford the freight.

Relax, you're going to absolutely love the camera.

I know how you feel. I ordered my G2 from Freedelivery.com and after five weeks of no camera, finally called them. They said it was on back order and couldn?t give me a date it would ship, so I canceled the order. I then called dbuys.com and ordered it from them, this time adding a few accessories to increase the cost of the order and they shipped in a week. I got the camera last night and I?m a bit nervous myself as I learn to use it. Very different from standard 35mm camera. So much to learn. Good luck with your new camera.

I ordered my G2 from http://www.amdv.com over a week ago, and paid extra for 2nd day delivery. They have screwed me around so bad and lied their teeth out, I finally got a tracking number this morning, and they told me it was shipped out last night, Of course the tracking number doesn't come up in UPS's database, I call UPS and they tell me it only means a call for pick up was made and that it has not been shipped.

AMDV.com says that it was shipped and gave me a load of B.S. about how their system has to batch out before UPS's system updates, that is a bunch of bull. I have been on these guys calling as much as ten times per day for the last week, and they alway's tell me it's on the way, or it will be there tomrow.

I called and canceled my order after my second day delivery didn't come thru and they talked me into a free memory card if I would keep my order. they said it would be there in two bus. day's well it's been over that.

Why can't these shady companies just be honest and say" we are out of stock would you like to try a different camera" or something like that?

the problem with canceling an order placed with a credit card is that it can take up to a week to actually get the money back into your account to purcahse a new camera. that is why I stayed with them when they told me they would get it out in "just a few more day's"

Would you kindly share your thoughts on why you chose to buy it from
B&H? At what price did you buy it? Did you get any good deals thrown in?

I am earnestly waiting for my Amex card, given the current msn deal, I am hoping to get a good overall price.

Thanks for all the feedback and positive words! So far, the experience with B&H has been excellent. I ordered the G2 online for $729.95 plus $13.50 shipping. It seemed like a reasonable price and I have heard such positive things about the company, I just felt more comfortable ordering online from them as opposed to some of the others with suspiciouly low prices. The order was placed Saturday night, they immediately sent a follow-up email confirming with an order number, then on Monday it shipped out (Fedex Express Saver) and they promptly sent me an email with the tracking number. I am confident that I will get the camera by the end of the week. Express Saver is 3 day delivery I believe. I am confident that I will get delivered the goods. I was actually more worried about what happens after it arrives and if there will be something wrong with it. But you guys have been great about saying that there are more likely posts about bad things happening than there are positive experiences. I will just keep positive thoughts. I can't wait to start learning all I can about how to use this wonderful camera. I have checked out lots of your galleries and your pictures are great! I hope mine can eventually be half as good as yours. : )

Well, I ran the dead pixel test, and if I'm doing it right, it looks like...NO dead or hot pixels!! Whew...looks like I got a good one! Now to jump onto that learning curve...

I ordered the G2 from B&H on Saturday also. Thanks to all in this forum for your advice and input! Great camera at a great price. B&H fulfilled my order right away. I am expecting it tomorrow or Thursday :)

Dell, however, is another story. They still have not shipped my Kingston 256 CF - ordered the same day as the G2. Today it shows out of stock on the their site. I hope my delayed order is due to Dell's slow and incompetent customer service vs. poor inventory management/web based product counter. Where did Dell get that "Award Winning Service" from anyway? Anybody else have delays with Dell?

Ps - I also like how they raised their retail price from $146 to $163.95 during their 25% off sale. Still a good deal after coupons though!

I guess it was the inventory problem.

Question: Should I wait and take a chance until December for the Kingston? I see that there is a Mr. Flash deal. Any suggestions or better offers?

I don't know what to say about the dead pixel test. It's not really a "real life" test. I tested my G2 back in Sept. and came up with zero dead or hot pixels. When the Leonids were flying I did another test to see if there might be some hot pixels there instead of stars. I found some hot pixels...only 2. For the next few days I drove myself crazy looking at all my pictures under 2 and 4 times magnification. Sometimes I thought I could see them....but they were never precisely in the same place. I finally decided if they were that hard to find I could live with them. I think I've decided the best test is your own eyes rather than the pixel test. Just my 2 cents.

Congratulations on the arrival of the G2!!! You ordered on Saturday? (That's when I ordered mine.) I am expecting mine tomorrow - was hoping for today, but perhaps mine had to go a longer distance (NYC to Southern California). I went to the Fedex website and tracked it - it left the sorting station in Memphis a few hours ago! I hope the rest of the way is by air or else it will take a LOT longer to arrive than I expected! (After all, it took two whole days just to get from New York to Memphis!)

As far as your CF dilemma, I don't really have any experience ordering this so I can't really say. But, I would love to hear what you finally do buy and where because I am sure to follow suit sooner rather than later!

All of you that have an AMEX card are really lucky! I am not eligible for American Express (long story) so I miss out on the good deals. But, nonetheless, I am happy with B&H's price and I am expecting my camera on Thursday as well!! : )
