Is 18-200VR good for the outdated D100?

Why not? The d100 is not that outdated i think ;-)
It is an DX format camera, the lens is af-s, so i will work perfectly!

I wasn't aware that there were any outdated D100s. How do the differ from the D100s that still function and produce images as good as they ever did?

QC, i bought my d100 a couple of years ago. it still takes fantastic pictures, just like my really old, fully manual, nikon fm1 takes fantastic pictures.

Works just great on my not so old D100. I still haven't managed to get any pics worth uploading here. The fault of the photographer, not the camera or the lens.

The D100 is basically a D70 with a very slow card interface, horrible positioning of the ISO selection, a hardware metering selector which you almost need pliers to turn, a heavier AA filter, a stainless steel box section subchassis and a battery grip option so really, unless the card write speed gets up your goat and you need to change ISO a lot, it's no more outdated than the D70 or D50..
And Yes, the 18-200VR works beautifully on it.

Thinking of getting the 18-200VR for my old D100, is there any
difference compare to the D70 or D50?
I had a D100 and now I have a D70s. There are improvements in the D70s but it isn't a wildly great difference. The D100 will take great pictures and 90% of that is the photographer and the lens. Enjoy your D100 and of course it will work great with the 18-200VR.

Thanks to all of you, the lenses that I have are Tamron 17-35mm
F2.8 Di LD, Nikkor 35-70mm F2.8D AF, Nikkor 80-200ED AF. 80-200ED
AF is just too heavy to carry.
Great glass too ....... You'll find the 18-200 is a great convenience lens, don't expect it to match the Nikon F2.8 stuff you have between 35 and 200mm but it'll give the best copy of the Tamron 17-35 a good run for its money!

I would certainly think so. I thought about the 18-200 VR myself but instead I have decided on the 17-55 f2.8 dx for my D100. The talk about the stronger anti aliasing filter on the D100 might make you wonder but I would say it will just need a little extra USM as it does with any lens. I'll bet the 18-200 VR would be a nice addition to your camera bag, especially on the days that you can only take one lens.

BTW, my D100 has only had one minor hitch in 3 1/2 years and the picture quality still amazes me.

Kind Regards

Great info, thanks. It does say that such problems are rare.
