Good for you. I just finished my 2nd and 3rd. I actually 'fell' into them but they are turning out to be continuing things. This isn't what I 'do', but I love photography and so love doing even more of it---and for money too (which just bankrolled my new camera which is on its way).

Hope you enjoy your job as much as I enjoyed mine. I'm delivering 850 8 x 10 color prints, 17 CD's and contact sheets tomorrow for the 2nd of the two I just finished and I'm pleased as punch with myself smile . I'm sure you will feel the same. BTW, my G1 plus 420EX/Lumiquest Promax and WEstcock Softbox (would you believe I lost my 2 Stofen bouces--white and gold--at the shoots) were terrific and I will never be sorry I parted with the money for my Bogen/Manfrotto tripod and good head.

Have fun and let that excitement spill over into your work.

Well, tell us what you're going to do.

Hey,

Don't keep us wondering. Many of us would love to find an outlet that would pay for our desire for photography. I use a G1 and after 5000 shots I'm ready to try to put the skills I've learned to work. What is the nature of your photography assignments, cj and Diane?

For me, once I got my first "pro" job, the others just snowballed because of word of mouth and because you can always talk about when you did the "such and such" project for "whoever". It also helps to have business cards, a web site, and join a chamber of commerce. To get that first one, maybe offer the business a really outstanding deal or twist the arm of a relative - or even barter services......

Hi cj,

1st: Congratulations!!

I'm curious, which camera do you use?

I shot quite a few parties/happenings/whatever the last year with my G1 (all unofficial and unpaid), but I wouldn't want to ask money for my work. I love my G1, but it misses too many times in the focussing department. And that's (kind of) okay when you're shootng for fun, but it's inexcusable when I would have asked money for the pics. So, I hope you're using a D30, or maybe even a EOS-1D? If you are using a G1/G2, how do you cope with focussing problems?

Good luck on your photo job(s)!! They're fun, aren't they?

Cool pictures of sports cars, taken with a G1

Over about 5000 pictures on my G1, I haven't had any focusing problems, except in macro mode (which I end up manual focusing).

If you know the size of the G1 focusing area and how it figures what's in focus, it seems pretty simple to focus on whatever you want.

I have no experience in sports/action photography though, I imagine it'd be difficult with quickly moving objects. =)

Like you I use a G1. And Like jesse i've never experienced the focussing problem so many are complaining about. My experience is that as long as you apply the knowledge of how the focussing system works you get a nice focussed shot nearly every time. So all this fuss about the focussing system has always astounded me.

As for those asking how i got my recent job...I can only say i used the tested old method of the casting couch ! ;)
