Thanks to Warren and Quentin!

PLEASE EVERYONE VOTE!

FROM WARREN SARLE (thanks Warren):

"Customary voting procedure, cribbed from Quentin, who cribbed it from someone else, etc.:

PLEASE PLACE ALL VOTES IN A MESSAGE IN THIS THREAD. PLEASE REPLY TO THE FIRST** MESSAGE WHEN YOU VOTE (NOT OTHER MESSAGES FURTHER DOWN THE THREAD).

Honourable mentions: We encourage you to make as many honourable mentions & comments as you like for pictures you do not vote for. And please feel free to add critiques and comments with your votes so we can see why you voted as you did.

Assigning equal points: If you assign the same points to more than one picture in a gallery, please list those pictures in the same order as they appear in the gallery to make it easier for the moderator to count the votes.

Voting message format: Here is the format for your voting message in the voting thread:

Competition:
4pts - Title by Artist
(then optionally, but strongly encouraged)
[3, 2 or 1]pts - Title by Artist
[3, 2 or 1]pts - Title by Artist
(etc, to a maximum of 16 points)

Exhibition:
4pts - Title by Artist
(then optionally, but strongly encouraged)
[3, 2 or 1]pts - Title by Artist
[3, 2 or 1]pts- Title by Artist
(etc, to a maximum of 16 points)

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can copy the Title-by-Artist text from the gallery web page and paste it into your post to save typing. Presumably other browsers allow something similar.

Finally: it's considered good manners to vote for both galleries, even if you only entered pictures in one of them. Also, if you did not enter any pictures, you are still allowed to vote in either or both galleries.-

Take your time. Please do not be influenced by anyone elses votes. Your opinions are what count :-)"

I will add Kim and Kent's votes to these as well.

all the best,
Gregory

Hi Gregory,

I was a bit surprised that you hadn't entered either galleries this time; the theme seemed perfect for you?! I was just looking at your series on Dance, and was really struck by the ones in which the male is half hidden by the female in front...it reminded me of a delicate woman and a minotaur. Very interesting. Probably nice as monochrome, too!

Could you remind us when the voting ends?!
Thanks,

Kim

Gregory, i'm adding these as Warren did for Kent and Kim's. Don't add these three people's in twice!

My Votes I really don't like Black and White photography as" I " feel there is about 1% of pictures that blossom in that format but here is my vote and yes they looked great. Old people really blosssom in this formate as I think its all the years made up of lines and blemishes getting through life.

It was totally horrid deciding who to vote for among so many excellent images. I was forced to give wonderful pictures insulting votes, or worse no votes at all, simply because the overall standard (esepcially in the Exhibition Gallery) was so high. I do apologise to those to whom that applies.

Competition Gallery:
4 Weathered" by Albert Yanowich Jr. (Albert, you sexy beast ;-)
3 Roof Walker by Quentin Bargate
2 Cross Criss by Jono Slack
2 "Moulin Rouge Confidence" by Charles Gervais
2 Trinity" by David Fink

2 "Lumpy with an Eviscerated Toy" by Warren Sarle (this is funny, eccentric, dour and endearing - all the qualities I imagine you have too, Warren ;-)

1 Fall, by LVPG (I love this and wish I'd had more points to play with - seems wrong to only give it 1)
Hon mentions:

Jono for his train. For me it didn't quite do it, but i know how hard it is to try something away from your usual stuff, and this had a lot going for it. also David and alkbert's other images and CCClarke's cow.

Exhibition Gallery:
Gawd, this was a battle:
4 "Yesteryear" by Paul Rohal
3 Innocente by Manta Ray/Kent Wisner
3 Dignity by Quentin Bargate

2 Sitting in the Shade by jono slack (why, oh, why did you cut off his right knee? I would have given it 3 or 4 otherwise - such a beautiful, dignified shot)
1 "The Artist Engrossed" by David Fink
1 Shadows by Vikas
1Innocent regret" by John Hill
1 "Leonardo #1" by Dirk Vermeirre

Hon mentions to Ray Pettit, Lou smith and Dean Weaver for their entries, and to Dirk for the rest of his - I hope you'll all enter the next challenge.

...if you restricted your votes to actual "portraits" you would have had more. LOL :)

Rick

Rick
Hi Rick,

thank you, but if you read what Gregory put, you will see that he didn't retrict the challenge to the conventional meaning of portrait. See below:

A portrait can be many things, you are the only limiting factor i.e. you have to decide what a portrait is for you. The only parameter is that it must be in black and white.

He stated even more clearly in the challenge galleries that a portrait, in this context, didn't have to be people etc but could be an object (for example ) - can't get onto pbase at present to cut and paste, but have a look.
