Ok, so it seems that centre.net.au have the US version of the 350d shipping... Anyone got any news from other local retailers on the arrival date? I know Canon are vaguely sticking with May 1, but they have shown themselves to be tardy in the past...

Is it just me or are other Aussies waiting for the black 350d finding that most retailers are being very no-commital about May 1?

I went into a store yesterday and ended up buying the battery grip because I liked the overall fit so much... So now I just need the camera.

How much for the battery grip, & the extra batteries if you bought any.
I imagine the 350D will feel better with the grip.

Yeah, itsn't that the notion overall with stores, that when a new product comes out they don't know when its going to come out?....

No news from here in Tassie, but fingers crossed the same thing happens as did when the silver models came out - they were relased in the shops here on March 3!!

Hopefully they do arrive so you can make use of your battery grip!!
 
I think 1 May might be optimistic.

We've got the same problem here in New Zealand where the release of the black version is lagging behind the silver (not due here until end of May. Even Canon NZ is going no further than saying it's "on the horizon")

I emailed a retail store - Michaels - in Australia hoping to import it, and the reply re availability was 'end of May'. The person sounded fairly helpful and on to it, though I don't know anything about the store.

Yeah I tried the grip on a silver demo 350d they had in the store and thought it felt like a really good fit - much improved to the sans-grip feeling. It cost $AU250 which I thought was steep and am sure you can get a better deal online, but it was there, I was pretty excited, so I thought I'd buy it:-)

Canon told me last Monday that the black 350D's are in the wharehouse and going out to shops in the next 2 weeks. Mine has been on order for 2 months and I just played with a silver version (again) in a local shop. Wow it's fast ! The dealer said he's going to a show in Brisbane next week and thinks they might be released there. Meanwhile I wait, wait, wait....

That show is probably http://www.photoimagingworld.com.au held in Brisbane on May 13th. I'll be going along, looks like there's a lot of manufacturers there.

I bought mine at the local camera store in Merimbula / South Coast / NSW
I ordered it 2 months ago and here it is at last !

So they should be everywhere soon.

Ah, I haven't wanted to pre-order because everyone in my area seems to think that a 350d in black won't even exist - or at least not until June/July! I was hoping you picked it up online somewhere:-)

I ordered mine 2 months ago too. Now I am hopeful, but the camera shop still seems a bit clueless. I am in Adelaide, by the way.

Battery charged and now it's getting dark but I did a focus test - seems spot on.

This is my son, who when he saw the black 350D asked if he could have ONE also (I think).
This kit lens is impressive. I'm impressed. I'm excited.

Looks well worth the wait. Did you pay around $1800aus? I've heard a rumour of the black ones being sold for a few dollars more as in some US shops.

To me it was worth the wait as I wanted black - call me old fashioned :-)

Well the price is either the same or a hundred dollars less. When I called Canon a week ago the woman told me RRP for the black 350D was $1799.

Then later I wondered if that was the kit or body only. I was more concerned if they had arrived. My local camera shopkeeper had agreed on $1799 previously, so I paid that and will discuss deals on lenses when he returns from the Brisbane photo show. So far I'm extremely happy with the 350D and the kit lens is way above my expectations. I now find it hard to understand all the complaints about softness and focus issues. If this is what the kit lens can do then I can't wait for some serious glass.
