D7: Where is the enthusiasm?

Homer,

One big plus of the F505V it that it delivers eye pleasing pictures right out of the camera (Kudos to the Sony engineers).
I am more impressed with the optics and features of the D7. The picture
quality is on par with the 505V and the 5MP let a lot of room for cropping.

Regards,

Andreas

Pfnüsu,

Well, i did something similar. I had the D7 on preorder for a good price (1150 USD). When i saw the D7 in a local store for a higher price i bought it.

Andreas

My 3MP f/2.0 combination (Casio QV-3500) isn't available this weekend, but if it's important for you I can take a picture with an older camera (f/3.2 1/2.7 imager) and post it here. Just to compare a little bit...

As a matter of interest, I got banned temporarily for 'flaming' Dr.
Gonzo, so a word of caution to you guys - count to ten and kick the
cat. It is, after all, Phil's forum.
Castigated and chastened, but still a fan of the D7.
Dave Roberts
Which cat should I kick Dave, I have a choice of 22! Perhaps I could rotate them on a daily basis until my D7 arrives!

Kate :-)

Tricia,

Yes i have recognized it this morning. My hypermart account seems to be not existing anymore.

One reason could be that i exceeded the permitted traffic quote?
There could be other reasons too...

Andreas

Yup, the camera is available around here, this week i went to the camera shops instead of having lunch - every day a different one - and played around with the cam. Unfortunately SFr. 2000.- is the limit for me (it cost's 2498.- around here). So after some back and forth I finally decided to buy online....

Just hope my swedish is well enough (i've been there once for a week smile ) to understand the manual and software.

It fits in the back pocket of my pant and I still can sit comfortable. A lot of people get very excited when watching me shooting with it!
Jake.
Yeah, I don't know what everyone is complaining about. On MY D7 the
battery life is excellent, I've never even had to change them. It
does not get hot at all either. It is also very lightweight.
Bryan
Is it weather proof. It's very damp here in South Jersey.

George
Sorry...but I don't like the colour....couldn't you make a pretty
pink one for us girlies?
Kate :-)

Dammit Bryan, maybe that's why there is a rumour around about build
quality!
Yes, it's very solid. If you drop it, it don't get damaged! And you don't hurt/damage what you drop it on. Further, it can stand a lot of heat and cold and also a lot of overvoltage.
Jake.
Homer
Agree, it would be a lot more fun if I had a camera. I made a
cardboard D7, but it just isn't the same. Appreciate any rumors
about who might have cameras. Bryan

When you get your Casio back, I'd like to see how good its DOF is since it's fairly close to what I have (CCD and lens).

This is the best I could do without using macro mode. The house behind the flowers is about 100 yards away, and it's rare I get DOF anywhere close to this. Perhaps it's the way my camera focuses.

And just to spam a pic I posted

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1005&page=1&message=1321341

The blur in the background is actually the same house that's in the first pic, but this shot was taken in macro mode.

If Andreas is reading this, could you tell me how far away the wall in the background is from your bird (I can't remember what kind it is since yout pick isn't available anymore).

Thanks

Congrats to your cam!
By the way, does anybody have experiences with close-up lenses
for the D7?
I tried a 5 diopter lens with the D7. Unfortunately the amount of
CA was
not bearable.

Regards,

Andreas
Hi Andreas,
Thanks for your reply. Perhaps a 3 diopter lens will give
better results (at the price of lower magnification, of course).

Hi!
Where is the enthusiasm for the D7?
no enthusiasm for me - I played around with the D7 in a local shop yesterday and am quite a bit disappointed:
  • My CF cards were not recognized (The guy in the shop said something about reformatting on a PC... but they work fine everywhere else)
  • AF is slower than I expected (ok, was a bit dark in the shop)
  • Camera (grip) is too small - could be that you can get used to it, but I found it difficult turning the dial (just next to the shutter release) and my thumb was always placed on the switches at the back.
  • Zoom is very stiff - difficult to zoom in with to fingers
but the main things (for me):
  • The framerate in the EVF is slow (12 Frames I guess, as the movie mode)
I think that is what was referred to as "delay"
  • EVF goes blank after a shot, so you cannot keep aiming at a target
btw: EVF was sharp even in the corners (maybe a bit CA)
build quality is ok (good) for a consumer cam, but don't compare it to E-10...

any similar experiences?

Fred

Hi,

Where is the enthusiasm for the D7?

Regards,

Andreas

SAD--I came over here just to see the pic of the hawk--and its gone (saw your problem in another thread). Hope it shows up elsewhere--what about samples/galleries when you find another place to upload to.

Hei! Lei av å vente?

Try out http://www.cyberphoto.se They've got the D7 for sale at SEK 10.900 +mva. Fast delivery too!

:Mong
I thinks most of us (at least me) am tired of the waiting,
anticipating stage... The D7 should have been in the Oslo Norway
stores last week, then they said this friday, today they announced
next week...

Reading Tegenfeldt's report, I am pretty sure the D7 will please
me. In the meantime I think the discussions around the camera
reflects peoples frustration while waiting.

And of course we have a some people that just seem to be here to
off-track discussions and post sour remarks....
