www.dpreview.com -- popup in every click?!?!?!?!?!

I am actually running an isa server and block the ips of these 2 sites but the popup is still showing up. I finally give up last night.
This afternoon, it stops all the sudden.

Don't forget, it is only showing up in http://www.dpreview.com .
It is is a spyware, it should not be only dpreview only.

Your computer is infected. I have never seen spyware on this site.

Try using Firefox (it's free) for your browser, after you get your computer cleaned up.

P.S., I'm terrible at proof reading my posts for spelling errors,so I use ieSpell with Internet Explorer and SpellBound with Firefox(both are free).Once installed, I just Right-click on my message here and select Check Spelling. Now,would someone give me a link to a grammar checker for forum messages ;)

Just because it's only showing up on this site doesn't mean that it's not on your computer. A great deal of spyware and adware monitor what sites you are going to and serve up ads specifically at visitors to particular sites. Basically, the slimeball advertisers using such services are paying to advertise on Phil's site without paying anything to Phil.

I assure you, the problem is on your end or your ISP's end, not this site.

Spyware is called that because it 'spies' on your browsing patterns and displays ads specifically for certain sites. Trust me when I say we are serving NO pop-up ads on dpreview and would never dream of infecting you with spyware.

Use Firefox or if you insist on being an IE Luddite then at least install the google toolbar which blocks pop-ups.

Then install and learn how to use AVG 7 Free edition, Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware.

Good luck.

I have tried a few and this is my favorite and I have been using it for a while now.

A good software firewall is great. It lets you know when any new programs or any changed programs is trying to access the outside world. Invaluable IMO:

Personally I use:

Firefox.
Thunderbird.
Open Office.
Sygate personal firewall.

That is it, I use trusted online scanners to search for virus/malware occaisionally, but with the firewall and the less virus prone applications, I don't get hit anymore.

I got nailed in the past with a virus before the firewall and once with spyware when I installed Divx to watch videos. I thought divx was legit. Fool me once...

Now I always look for open source, preferably hosted on sourceforge, as my most trusted source for utilities.

A know a lot of people are saying that my computer is infected etc. Even if it is, it is ONLY affecting dpreview. I have Spybot running (updated) and Norton AV Corp 9. I also use a hardware bases firewire appliance. Anyway, I could indeed by syped, but it is still something dpreview should be aware of as it ONLY affects dpreview.com.

I have runned a full system scan, nothing.

The page display an ad: http://www.greatratestoday.com/secret/default.asp?adv=80247&afid=CD4265

This is the 'ultimate destination'. it first arrives to another page Andigi pointed out then redirects to the link i provided.

It does not happen with Firefox. But I prefer IE. Also, fyi, i am using a HK ISP called Netvigator, on a 6Mbps ADSL line if that is at all relevant. It also happened on my other ISP which I used at work...

Ah, I didn't include a software firewall as I alsways try to convince people to get a hardware firewall.

Especially for those with a broadband connection you should use a router which performs network address translation (NAT). This in conjunction with the other AV and malware software will keep you up straight. I only recommend a software firewall for dial-up users and laptop users who roam.

I hope this helps

I prefer the sw firewall as it tell you if any programs are trying anything funny. Plus it is free and doesn't need any extra cabling.

For sure the outbound warnings are useful if you have nasties on your PC but the other SW plus common sense will prevent that.

A side note: I've found that sometimes people get frustrated with SW firewalls or don't understand them and thus either deliberately or accidentally disable them in order to get things to work - bittorent is one that springs to mind. So they end up unprotected and as we all know (OK some might not) a new WinXP SP1 installation connected to cable directly with no FW is screwed in 30 seconds or less. I know, I run honeypots and play with these people all the time :)

For people who don't understand firewalling I think a router is the best fit-and-forget solution.
