smoking and enjoying it, i can relate.... even though i hate it....kinda like sleep, enjoy it, feels great but wish it was never invented

For my next photo class assignment, I have to submit "3 b&w photos that tell a story about someone you know." I took these photos, but I can't decide on the final 3. Can someone help me pick 3? They have to be collectively coherent, more or less.

The quality isn't fantastic, as they are second-generation jpegs (I have the original jpegs). All were shot with the 300D and Tamron 28-75mm at f2.8 or f3.5 and then converted to black&white or black&white w/tint tones (thank you, Johny's B&W photoshop plug-in).

Do they suck, by the way???

Not that the composition is bad or the photos are bad in any way, just don't like the cig and the message it relays :(

  1. 4 is especially beautiful, it looks like the glamour Hollywood shots of the 40's. As for the smoking habit, people were asked to choose a picture.
I find hunting a disgusting subject, however, I can still select a beautiful picture when I see one.

I cannot stand the people smoking..so I would pick those that you don'T seee the smoke coming from her mouth. I think (at least to me) that look dirty.

I think that it looks dirty to see people with cigarette smoke. They smell bad and they look bad.

These are nice pictures in their own right but you are not meeting the objective. All you are telling us is that this woman smokes. That’s hardly a story and is not exactly interesting. Tell us more please.

That's what I was thinking too, but I think 1, 2, and 6 tell a linear story about lighting a cig up and enjoying it. One example our instructor told us we could (but shouldn't) do is 3 pictures of a pie: one whole, another half eaten, and another with one piece left. I think 1, 2 (or 3,4,or 5), and 6 tell a story. That's part of the trouble I'm having.

I think a lot of people aren't picking up on the idea behind the photos.

I see your point but the story still isn’t that clear to me. It looks more like instructions on how to light a cigarette and smoke. Maybe I would be more interested in what she was doing just before that made her "need" a ciggy?

That's like saying the people who don't like the exhibit by that guy who smeared feces on canvases and called it art don't get the idea behind his 'paintings'.

Disgusting is disgusting... if that's your reaction to the photo, I'm not going to blame someone for letting that cloud their opinion of the photos... that IS the opinion of the photos.

And I agree with them.
