F707v Confirmed

hahahaha, very funny...

Ulysses, I'm still waiting for you to post an animation of the 505v
to the 707v.. you did it w/ the s75/s85 before it was announced.
Lets see what you can do with this one! :)
  • Jeremy
actually, he did post a mock f505x or 707 or whatchamacallit...remember the black stinger he posted a coupla weeks ago that almost made me want to get a cardioversion?
Nice try friend, why don't you add image stabilisation to the list
of features!
Now, THAT would be a welcome addition to the wish list, wouldn't
it? :)

I want a liquid-cooled CCD and mount so that I could get up to ISO
4800 without any noise. It would only need to kick to high gear
above ISO 1600, and you'd hear the additional purring of a
micro-fan inside the camera. And THAT would be the only "noise"
that the camera would make!

Steady Shot is image stabilisation!

What I don't see is adding it and keeping the same lens.

Unless it's Digital Steady Shot in which case the inner 2.6 megapixels are for the image and the rest is used for the IS :-)
i'm in bali, indonesia right now, but i was in brunei, sumatra
yesterday. i was staying at the sheritin brunei, and sony was
having a confrence at my hotel! they were showing all thier new
stuff, under raps which will be comming out in the next year. it
was for large distrubuters only, but when i talked to the head of
sony for singapore and told him i had a 505v and wanted to know
about the succededing model he showed it to me. the f707v. it has a
5mp supper ccd, night shot, steady shot, a viewfinder, same shape,
same 5x zeiss lens, its a little sleaker looking, and uses the info
lithium m serries battery now! so there you go the release date is
oct for asia, and who knows when for the us. i know i will get one
asap. i don't know if anyone has said anything about it, since this
is the first time i have visted here since i left califonia 2 weeks
ago.

Having to strap that tank of liquid nitrogen to your back would be a bit of a drag...

I think he meant "Sheraton" hotel.
Plus, I have yet to find a hotel in brunei called "sheritin"....go
figure ;-)

i was told, via hear say at pc expo that sony was coming out with a 4 megapixel camera in september. this may or may not be a replacement for the 505v. i have no clue since stupid me did not ask anyone at the sony booth.

They could easily have been talking about the S85 and its U.S. wide release.

your are a moron phil, regardless if you do take good pictures. this was a sony meeting, and i looked at the proposed 707v. i saw what was new because it was highlighted in yellow and had a new sticker next to those features, as did all of the new sony products. this convention wasn't just for cameras, it was all of the sony lineup. so regarless of what you think you know, you don't. i saw it and i reported back to this forum because this is where i started learing about digital cameras. this is no hoax, and i also addressed the issued of memory stick priceses. the only answer i recieved regarding that was sony will have to lower prices to match compition.

Ok, sorry Bob, erm Joshua,

Here's your original post:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&page=1&message=1250192

You're saying that you were shown a new digital camera with the following specs:
  • Named F707V
  • 5mp SuperCCD (erm, isn't SuperCCD made by Fujifilm?)
  • Night shot (which is a video camera only feature)
  • Steady shot (plausable, but not in the same lens as the 505V)
  • Viewfinder (would have to be EVF)
  • Same shape
  • Same 5x zeiss lens (so how exactly would this marry up to the 2/3" CCD?)
  • Info Lithium M series (this would require the MemoryStick slot to be moved) - unlikely
According to your original post this "head of sony for singapore" SHOWED you this model. Correct?

Joshua,

You have to hand it to this "moron", he knows his stuff!

And he happens to produce the best dc site going, as well as"take good pictures"!

My kind of "moron"!

Hi Joshua,

When you say they showed you the new model 707V, was it a picture of it or and actual camera. Was it bigger than the 505V? What color was it?

What type of view finder was it and were was it on the camera? Hope you can get back to me, I'm very interested.
http://www.directoryuniversal.com/505v/index.htm
Kind regards
Ron

Joshua, Phil may write good reviews, but takes good photos? That's another matter. I hope you are right about what you reported.

Phil, I believe you meant plausible, instead of plausable.

Yes, Phil takes very good pictures. Very often, I couldn't believe that he used the same cameras that I had. If you are not a good photographer, you cannot review well.

I believe that Joshua saw a F707 news. But it may not be a direct successor to F505V. The specs reported are self-contradictory between them.

Hey there, Pondria -

It is unfortunate that when Phil steps in to lend a helping hand or to just ask questions about verification that someone slings an insult about his credibility or about the quality of his images. Unjustified and without basis is how I would classify these kinds of statements. I'm sure Phil recognizes that these are not STF regulars and that by and large, the forum appreciates his contributions and occasional appearances here. It's good to have him back.
Yes, Phil takes very good pictures. Very often, I couldn't believe
that he used the same cameras that I had. If you are not a good
photographer, you cannot review well.
I also enjoy his galleries for what he is able to do with EV Compensation and other various features of these cameras, especially the prosumer cameras, which are almost always good performers; but an excellent photographer can make even so-so cameras seem much more enabling. :)
I believe that Joshua saw a F707 news. But it may not be a direct
successor to F505V. The specs reported are self-contradictory
between them.
Yes. I'm sure that Joshua may have seen something . Whether it is called a "F707" (is there really a need for the 'V' if it is a new product??) is not really the question. But I think what he saw may not be what we are expecting to come for the future, namely The Heir. I'd like to know a few more details:
  • It definitely should have a big lens, but not the same lens as the F505-type cameras. Can he tell us what numbers were written on the front of the camera lens?
  • Can he give a more detailed account of the body of the camera and its connection to the LCD?
  • If the camera was functioning, can he say anything about the menu system?
  • Can he describe the positioning and the usage of the viewfinder? What type of viewfinder are we talking about? And does it lend itself to the swivel body for easy use?
  • What color is the camera? Is it silver? Is it black? Is it orange?
  • Are there more controls and buttons on the camera body and barrel?
  • Did the camera say on the silk screening that it was using a 5Mp CCD?
  • Sony is known for their image stabilization routines. They have a couple of different types in use in their cameras and in their camcorders. In using the term Steadyshot, is he using a Sony term mentioned at the conference, or would the stabilization be more accurately described with another term?
  • Did he personally hold the camera, or was it simply a picture of the camera or a still shot of the camera or a video of the camera?
  • How long did he have to spend with this camera?
  • What does he mean by night shot? Does he mean the same as Twilight+ mode? Does he mean that it has the same Autofocus Illuminator lamp as used by all of the new Cyber-shot cameras in the 2001 line? Or does he mean that it is true Nite shot such as the camcorders have?
  • He says he'll get one. Did he have a chance to see any image samples that this camera is capable of? I'd like to hear some comments on them if possible.
  • Does the camera have any sort of noise reduction routines to compete with the improving cameras in this area? I'd certainly shout from the rooftops if this were so.
There are a lot of questions here. I hope that some of them can be addressed.

Oh, that old thing? Just a little something I put together. I try not to repeat myself as best as I can. :)

You understand.... :-]

i know not who bob is, setting that aside, you were the last one i thought to be responding to my message. and you can just be added to list of people who will obvisouly be stunned when sony releases thier specs. yes i thought it unusuall for sony to list thier ccd as super since i have not seen that before. and here is the rest of my message which i prepared prior to reading yoru response.

We shall see who has credibility when the specifications of the F707 are released. This is the forum that I look to for the newest information. I had the lucky opportunity to be at the right place at the right time, and witness the Sony showcase. I made an effort to share this information with the people at this forum; I have learned very much here, and looked forward to sharing this information as a contribution to the Sony forum here at Dpreview.com. I have no reason to fabricate this information, or any desire to do so. Being that I am currently traveling through Thailand and Indonesia I went to some lengths not only to get to an internet connection, but to post a new thread sharing the hot information. I reported what I saw at the Sony Showcase. I can’t answer specific questions like how can they use the same lens with a 5mp censor. I know it has a 5x Zeiss lens, and a 5mp censor, and for all I know it’s a different lens, but for first information I gathered what I could. To set the record straight, I did not have the camera in my hands, or even see a functional model of it. I did see it as a section of their presentation, and then make the effort to find out more. I did see a picture of the unit, and noticed that the unit itself is far sleeker looking. I am not an engineer, and I can not answer any specific question, I have posted what I know with regards of the f707.
