i'm in bali, indonesia right now, but i was in brunei, sumatra yesterday. i was staying at the sheritin brunei, and sony was having a confrence at my hotel! they were showing all thier new stuff, under raps which will be comming out in the next year. it was for large distrubuters only, but when i talked to the head of sony for singapore and told him i had a 505v and wanted to know about the succededing model he showed it to me. the f707v. it has a 5mp supper ccd, night shot, steady shot, a viewfinder, same shape, same 5x zeiss lens, its a little sleaker looking, and uses the info lithium m serries battery now! so there you go the release date is oct for asia, and who knows when for the us. i know i will get one asap. i don't know if anyone has said anything about it, since this is the first time i have visted here since i left califonia 2 weeks ago.

View finder and the same shape? How do they do that???

How could this be if it has the new 5M ccd? The 707V should have
a completely new ( and larger ) lens system to match up with the
new ( and larger ) CCD. Did you hold the camera in your hands?

Remember I said earlier that the next 505 will called 707 since Sony uses odd number naming (most of the time)?

Let's see if they really bring out a 707V. I would be interested ;-) And please, give us some storage option, or cheaper and larger MS.

OK, you have a theory about the numbering. And I have a corresponding theory about storage.

I've always said that Sony generally releases their next step for Memory Stick size in conjunction or near-conjunction with an increase in filesize due to CCD size and pixel growth.

Here is the official Sony projection when asked about for Memory Stick growth:

"We are planning to offer 128-MB models in FY 2000 (April 2000 to March 2001), 256-MB models in FY 2002, and over 1-GB models in FY 2003."

In fairness, I would like to point out, however, that we did the same thing to a couple of the guys who mentioned the S85 a few months back. )

This particular story just doesn't ring like truth for a large number of reasons. Not saying he's spinning us a web of falsehood... but it just sounds off. It makes for fun reading, though.

FRUSTRATION... My question on 505V shutter-lag didnt set forum on fire.
DECISION... took more test shots on a different Fuji 6900.
SATISFACTION... Put images on PC... Looked better than last time.
ELLATION... Sony Forum's splendid news on 707V with viewfinder.
STARVATION Break for evening meal.

At any rate, do not be discouraged by our ragging on Joshua. He's a good guy and a fellow F505V user. So I can't get upset with him.

It's just that perhaps in his excitement, the way he worded things sound odd if not inaccurate. And like I said, we've had to eat our words in the past on upcoming Sony cameras. So really, who knows!?!?

Apparently, only Joshua and the few other people who are privy to such info.

Whether it's true or not is irrelevant in my book. We have no info to go upon, no pictures to see, no pictures to animate... we got nothin' but the forum.

I want a liquid-cooled CCD and mount so that I could get up to ISO 4800 without any noise. It would only need to kick to high gear above ISO 1600, and you'd hear the additional purring of a micro-fan inside the camera. And THAT would be the only "noise" that the camera would make!
