Introduce yourselves....

Here we are:

2004's Christmas Card.

Used a tripod and exposed for the lights on the tree, mantle and the flames in the fireplace. Then a second shot without moving the camera using a large and medium softbox. Layered in PhotoShop and erased the tree, mantle and fireplace to allow the lights and flames to show through where they would have been washed out in the flash shot.

This was shot with my D100, but it is posted in this forum because two of those presents under the tree are a D70 and SB-800 for her so I guess it makes it OK to post here.

Happy New Year to all the dpReview folks.

Bob

Nice shot, Bob! Thank you for sharing the details.

Too funny!!! Thanks for the link to the cartoon! We really laughed about that one!

Glad you like the photo--nice to find another Mac geek in this forum! :o)

Janice
The "Think Different" is an Apple slogan. Since all but one are
using an Apple Mac computer, I liked it as a caption. And, the
"apple" is red....

Best,
Janice
She's not as Different as you think... the following cartoon shows
what the Mac-kitten connection is all about:

(Cool shot, BTW. Your family is almost as Mac-geeky as I am.)

Like the reflection photo.

Both daughters are in the photo with the family. Had someone else there (not a family member) to hit the shutter for us after we set things up. Normally would have used the timer, but had visitors and so used them. So. Let us know when you are coming to Utah, and we'll do the introductions! ;o)

Best,
Janice
Thanks. Glad you like the photo--I did, too! Amazing what can
happen when you decide to "ah, let's just do this for fun!"

Best,
Janice
Don't know about myself but you could introduce me to your daughter
:) Nice picture, I like it!
I don't really have a good photo of myself taken with the D70 but
here's one.. Reflected from a car window, while I was bored.

And what comes to you'r daughter's I bet the one not in the picture
looks as good as both you and the one in the picture, so it would
be too hard to choose :P

Dan,

Agreed. The educational discount is a good one. We'll work that one out this summer before she "does the walk."

Best,
Janice
She graduates from college in
August, and hopes to change that, however. :o) One of her first
purchases will be a Powerbook.
You guys probably know this already, but Apple has a pretty good
educational discount going. Hopefully, she'll get one before
graduating! ;-)

Hi Bob,

Welcome to the D70 Forum! Thanks for taking the time to look at the post/photo.

The photo was originally taken in color. I created a layer with just the red sweater (selected only the sweater), and then desaturated the background layer of all color. Then I merged the two layers.

I am just learning how to do this, and it may not be the best way, but it is the way I know how to do it. I hope that helps.

The D70 is a great camera, by the way. I highly recommend it!

Best,
Janice
Hi, Janice. I am Bob (Maple Leaf) from the Sony Talk Forum. I am
here because I am interested in the Nikon D70 and may make a
purchase in the next few days. I like this forum and the friendly
folks here. BTW, what process did you do to make your daughter's
sweater red in a B&W shot?
Thanks for allowing me into this forum.

I agree with you, it is fun to see the real people behind the posts.

Best wishes,

Happy new Years all!

I am brand new to SLR photography and loving every minute of it. My
business partner took these images of his newborn son and almost
3yr old daughter (with face paint and all) with me in late
December. These are really the only pictures of me from my D70
worth showing. I like these types of threads as it reminds me there
are REAL people behind the posts. :)

I think I got carried away with the red in #2 but it works.

Take care,
Eric

Hey--what part of Northern Virginia? We just moved from Springfield, VA, to Utah. We lived in Northern VA for 15 years. How long have you lived there? Go to DC and take some monument photos for me--especially at night!!! I miss that already!

Best,
Janice
Nice job! Great idea with the spelling. Looks like a nice family.
Thanks for sharing.

As I'm still very new with posting at this forum - not lurking , so I just take the opportunity...

Did some flash testing with the SB24 I bought at ebay. Works pretty well with the D70 if you're willing to do a little tweaking. No iTTL but very good as an intermediate in automatic mode until I go for the SB600.

My daughter pulled the trigger and I tried to keep up with her. Usually I'm not that redfaced ;) Enjoy

I like it! Thanks for sharing. Especially like the noses. So, it
gets cold in PA where you live? ;o)

So, how did you use your Palm V to trigger the D70. Does it work
with the m515?
Thanks, Janice! Yes, it gets cold - most of the time. Today, however, it is a balmy 61 degrees, and it looks like it will stay like this for a few days. My wife loves it!

The noses were her idea - ever since she saw Ali McBeal wearing one, she has been after one of them. I finally found some on eBay and bought them for her.

I believe the m515 can trigger the D70 as well. There is a program that is aimed to making your PDA function as a TV remote; it has a learning mode where you can program any button - that's what I used. (You can also trigger the D70 with a cheap RCA Universal TV remote).

This is a fun thread, I am glad you started it.

Oops my bad, I guess I didn't read your first post good enough because I thought you were in the middle :)

Don't limit their possibilities! LOL! Thanks for sharing. Nice
photo. Nice to meet you and your boys.

Janice
