I very much admire Doug's ability to capture mood and dramatic light and certainly aspire to have 1/2 his talent in this area. I also appreciate Doug's use of PS to make the most of a less than stellar image.

This shot was not flagged as a keeper but I decided it might be useful with some heavy PS processing (mainly several vignette, gradient, and burning techniques to focus all the light on the face and some soft focusing and skin softening for a bit of angelic glow).

I'm gratified that you would thing anything I might do, would be inspiring... Even if it is my use of less than stellar images.... lol (just kidding)

I can see that this is a bit of a departure from your normal work. This is not to say that your normal work is not good or that this is any better, It's just a departure...

As you can images Joe, I'm going to say good things about this image as it has a little of me in it.... But to me this image is good because it is beginning to tell a story. This in my mind is a good thing.

The one nit-pick I will bring up is my monitor is showing a background area on the left side near her head that has not been darkened. I can still see the brown background that you used in the original image. I'm assuming that this is not supposed to be there....

Hi Joe,

I spend a lot of my time in the Retouching forum so we are very familiar with Doug's magical work and very happy that he now pops in once in while now.

I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of retouching your photo with some of the features you mentioned. Just let me know when you want it taken down from my website and it will be gone. I gave you the artist credit.

What I did it was run a few actions and then put a vignette around it. With this picture there are so many possiblilities.

If you want, I can put a mystical beam of light coming from one of the sides of the picture to make it look more heavenly. Just let me know and please let me know if you like what I did and if not and then I will remove the picture from the site.

I hope I did nothing wrong with making some changes to the picture. I know you mentioned that you would like to see some things done to the picture.

I know you're kidding but I want to be sure you undertand that I was referring to a shot of your wife that you salvaged with PS (outdoors sitting on a rock IIRC). Your shots are typically stellar and PS only makes them better. :)

Well I'm a LONG way from telling a story the way YOU tell a story but I'm working on it. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I fixed the spot on the BG and I think it looks better.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the comments. I couldn't agree more about this forum. When you look past the brand war nonsense it's the BEST place on the net to learn and grow.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for commenting buddy. PS is an amazing tool. The good news is that rapid learning is possible. Last year at this time I barely knew how to use layers.
