pre-rebel on the 10D forum. It was a beautiful shot with the 70-200f4L and amazing bokeh, or maybe it was the amazing blond, but either way it was impressive. Maybe the owner will see this thread and post that example as well.

Beautiful indeed. I just think that the first branch should also be in focus.

here on this pbase gallery is a good exemple of a bad bokeh, taken with the 50mm F1.8 lens. That really show the ugly hexagonal shape and the strong edge:

http://www.pbase.com/dana/image/4016138

the same gallery show different lens bokeh, 100-400 L, 70-200 F2.8 and some others:

http://www.pbase.com/dana/bokeh

some other pbase galleries showing the bokeh of the 50mm F1.8:

http://www.pbase.com/sandman3/bokeh

and some other tests on pbase showing different lenses bokeh, including the 80-200 F2.8 L lens

http://www.pbase.com/gilbert/bokeh_testing

And now some really wierdo!

and I am totaly puzzled by this one taken with a 50mm F1.4..can someone explain what hapened there? why is the bokeh tronckated one the left and has a football shape on the right side???

Very smooth - I found the foreground branch out of focus to be a little distracting though.

I took this with the 28-135mm a couple of weeks ago - it's a beech mast in front of the rest of the tree which was just about perfect in the change between green and gold and before the leaves dropped - it was backlit and I really struggled getting what I wanted, standing on tip toes on a muddy slope to frame the shot and not teetering about so much I lost focus - it's not as sharp on the subject as I'd like and I may clone detail over the white area behind the stalk when I've a minute, this was my quick and dirty out of camera shot when I came back from holiday - I often revisit the work later when I've more time and work more on shots I decide I like - you need to live with them a while sometimes to see which are worth some time investing.

This was the same tree, in focus:

what lens is that? this is from my 80-200 F2.8 L
Mine was shot with the 200 / 2.8L. I just hate the size of the long zooms, but honestly, if there's any difference in quality between them, then it's just too small for me to really care. Yours is a great shot!

You are right, of course, but that shot was at 1/25s hand-held f 2.8, so, at 200mm, there was no way to increase the DOF except by upping the ISO, but I'm not sure how much better even f 5.6 would have been for that shot.

Guity! I mentioned in a reply above, though, that since it was already at 1/25s, it would have been hard to narrow the aperture much even with increased ISO. Even f 5.6 might have put that fore branch OOF. But, yeah, it would have been better!

you should see the Canon 500mm F4 or the 600mm F4. that will put the 70-200 F4 to shame anytime.

Yours is a great shot!
it was taken at ISO 1600 with the 20d and at F4 with 2TC stacked. so hmm..not sure what happen to the DOF at F11 with 2 TC but it does not look too bad.

I would probably have got more blur at F2.8 but the DOF is really small then.

The heron shot was at F3.2 with 2x and 1.4x TC stacked, so it is actualy F9 more than F11.

Caught this on my first day with dreb.

This is the new addition to the "family" next door. I really liked how it turned out.

If you had a lens that didn't zoom, you'd be trying to find some quality of it to brag about as well! : )

Seriously, I honestly don't see it as a higher quality lens than the zooms, just considerably smaller and lighter. It's AF is also quicker than other zooms at f / 2.8.

That 20D is one bitchin' machine, but the images are almost too good. For the first time I find myself agreeing with the Nikon people about the "plastic" look to Canon images. But, everytime I get "realistic" noisy shot, I NoiseNinja it which is the same thing! : )

Anyway, from what I've seen, the 20D seems to produce in-camera images with the same detail as the 300D before denoising, but with the same smoothness of denoising it. I'm broke right now, so the 20D isn't in my immediate future (unless my 300D fails), so I'll be interested to see what the 300D successor brings to the table.

Yep. Mine was at f / 2.8 and a few have complained of the OOF fore-branch in the pic.

until I start to see noise with my eyes when I look at things, I DONT want to see it in my photos. I prefer to see somethign that is as true to life as possible. Since we don't see noise when we look at a scene..I can't think of a reason to see it in our photos. doesn't make any sense and I hate noise, it just destroy detail.

These Llamas are cute when a baby. We've got a family of 3 just a stones throw away. I think they like having their pictures taken too. Very curious animals.

they are very curiious animals yes. I have read that they often get wounded by coyotees because they are too curious and go boldly to see anything, dangerous or not.
