** MC31: Multiples

G'day John,

Thanks for entering MC31.

I've put the image name from the caption and your name from the artist field into the title, so it's a bit tidier now. Without any description, it will be up to be to decide how to interpret your image against the theme and I'm happy to do that. If you want to include a description in the caption, that's your choice, but is not needed.

Thanks again for entering as our MCs are open to shots from all kinds of cameras. BTW, Morgan seems to be a fitting title for sure! :o)
What's with "picture 012", multiple eyes, "O's".... or just
somebody's error?

You're doing a great job John!
Thanks Tom.

G'day Kay,

I won't be too harsh. I don't intend commenting on all the images, but since you've brought it up, I'll make a quick observation here for something that is easy to fix up. I cab get distracted when the image isn't level, so don't be afraid to turn on the grid (ctril-') and rotate your images to get your horizontal reference line straight and level. Nice choice of subject captured well. Thanks for entering! :o)
Hi all,
I just posted two entries. Please be gentle in your comments (if
any). I took these pictures less than a week after I got my A1. I
had not learned how to use any of the settings except AUTO.....but
at least I knew to use a tripod and remote release when shooting at
Night....

And I just recently got PS CS, and don't know how to use it yet. I
would like to be able to reduce some of the "yellow" cast of the
lights.

Thanks for the gallery, John

While I can't promise that I won't change my mind between now and
'voting' time, the categories may end up being very much like:
....
6. the most entries by a single person; this is a multiples MC
after all ;o)
Maybe I'm making a chance in this category!

I just uploaded three more pics:

If I have counted correctly in my quick skim of the gallery, it seems that Henk and Alain are hotly contesting the most entries category. Of course, either of them might win in another category whether or not they win in this category. However, the more categories you get under your belt, the greater your chance of carrying off the prize, or perhaps more accurately the greater the recognition you will get in the results announcement! :o)

G'day fellow guinea pigs and welcome to MC31: Multiples!

We're going to take part in a trial of a different format for MC31.
Entries for MC31 will be in the PBase gallery below where we will
easily be able to see them all at a glance. We won't have to
laboriously dig our way through lots of messages for an envious
look at what our fellow contributors are lining up against our own
masterpieces to ultimately win the attention of the Moderator ;o).
All you need to know about entering is in the gallery header.

http://www.pbase.com/mtf_foto_studies/km_mc31

Please try to keep this thread active to advertise MC31, maybe by
announcing your entries in messages in this thread. Don't be afraid
to create a message if the thread has been inactive for a number of
hours.

My aim is for this MC to still be pretty much as informal as
previous MCs, so you will see that the 'rules' are pretty much the
same except for where you post entries and comment if you feel so
inclined. The results will still be announced in a KMTF thread and
the winning entry will still end up in the MC HOF for posterity. I
think the gallery should stay populated for at least a few days
after the MC finishes for people to have a look and for links from
the results thread to work. The gallery could then be cleared of
images ready for a future MC. If this format continues, one way to
do that would be to have two MC galleries that would alternate for
each successive MC.

If you have any comments on this trial format, please share your
thoughts by putting a message in this thread, or you can e-mail me
direct if your choice of words might get you banned from dpreview!
;o)

Now let's get squeaking and have some fun (as guinea pigs do when
they're having fun)! :o)

G'day Bob. Thanks for joining in.
John,
Terrific job as always - do you ever get time to sleep?
A fair question. It's nearly 2am here now, so I'll be off to bed pretty soon. Gotta check the MC31 galleries first to see what additional wonders have been included since I looked much earlier in the day.

I'd advertised MC31 to finish on Sunday night/evening GMT/EDT, but that means I have to get up early to sort things out here on Monday morning. I've decided to finish on Monday night my time instead, which will be Monday lunchtime/morning GMT/EDT.

The new finish time will be 1130am GMT or 0730am North America EDT on Monday 18 Oct, which will be 9pm here in Adelaide on Monday night.

thanks to Alain for teaching this old dog a new trick ;)

I have an entry in the gallery! It's not ideal... since the multiples are not alike, but I was so excited to put the frame together that I just went with it! Comments/critique welcome.

Thanks for the suggestion. I played around with the "168 chairs" photo, and was able to level the flagpoles to vertical. It did improve the overall look.

On the other picture, (murrah memorial), it looks to me like the memorial is already straight, but the reflection from the pond is a little off. Is that something you would normally try to correct, or just leave as is?

Thanks,
KayD

Hi John and all

Just posted my third entry - "generations" -

(resized)

Glad to hear folks have until Monday to enter, have enjoyed looking at all the entries so far and am looking forward to seeing what else folks come up with by then.

All the best

Just posted three images, one of it is 18 years old, taken with "historic" Minolta AF 7000, 28-85 zoom lens. You know what? In about two month, I am going to use this lens again with the new 7D!! (plus my 70-200/4 zoom). Minolta is really a great company! Who else offers you Anti-Shake with 19 year old lenses?

When shooting scenes with lots of straight lines (e.g. architectular shots) geometric distortions in the lens can become prominent (i.e. Barrel or pincussion distortion). This however can be easily corrected in post-prosessing, for example with PTLens plugin for Photoshop ( http://www.epaperpress.com/ptlens ).

Perspective corrections are a lot trickier. In Photoshop you can use the 'Free Transform' tool to get all lines straight, but in my experience its easy to get an image with a unnatural look (for instance if you straighten the facade of a building but you also can see part of the side of the building).

John, thanks for the suggestion of editing out the grass at the
front of the shot. It was too much work to edit all out, but I
think I got the most distracting pieces.
...it makes this picture even better

G'day Ove,

I've e-mailed you as well to make sure you don't miss the change to enter. Thanks for your interest and your lovely multiple shot. :o) You will need to upload the image to the MC31 PBase gallery for it to count. The gallery with instructions is here:
