Bad color (no help from C1 tech support) and magneta stripe in rotated images from C1

Excellent software compared to others. Plus because of other functions such as Digital DEE

But it takes a lot of memory to work well. When I went from 1 to 2 gb there was a marked improvement in speed and it has not crashed since. Using a modification of the technique in Reznick’s book, with just a few steps I have a very usable file that I can then shell out to photoshop for a few final adjustment. With the extra memory, I can easily run both programs at once. By the way, if you have similar files, once you get a file corrected in NC4, you can copy the changes and then paste them into all the other files and save a great deal of time.

Although there are times when I use the Raw Converter in Photoshop CS. But mostly it is Nikon Capture when I'm doing a batch conversion.

...and a memory hog. C1 is efficient and does a lot of background processing to get instantaneous response. I get a lot of work done quickly with it.

Nikon Capture - 25
Adobe Camera Raw - 10
Capture One (all versions) - 5
Bibble - 2
1 each for RAW PhotoDisk, PhotoFirst and dcRAW

Not surprising, but I thought ACR might do better. FYI I use NC but I'm looking forward to seeing what Raw Magick will have to offer.

Thanks to all for participating, especially those who explained the reasons for their choice. Too many reasons and too hard to categorize, but they make for interesting reading.

Non-voters - it's not to late to stuff the ballot box, especially if you will explain your choice

Cheers,
Gordon

Nikon Capture is very good.
I have used it for years.
But ACR runs about twice as fast.

I bet you give up Capture
if you do the following:

1st step:
Read Bruce Fraser's "Real World Camera RAW in PS CS" book.
It changed my mine...in favor of ACR over Nikon Capture.

2nd step:
Download "Dr Brown's Image Processor"
(It's free, it's a Script for PS)
Go here:
http://www.russellbrown.com/body.html

Download BOTH Dr Brown's Image Processor AND the QuickTime Tutorial movie

Simply AMAZING.....bet you give up Capture.

Why? My ability to use the range of non destructive control tool (thanks to Ron Reznick's book on the subject) in Capture, then cropping / cleaning in Photoshop.
