>>> challenge 72 topic: Humour <<<

In order to keep this thread bumped up, I will be posting a series of humor shots which were too small, too low quality, or just not good enough to post in the competition. We all like a little humor, so this will give you all something to look at and laugh at whie reminding everyone to ENTER THE CHALLENGE!

Here's the towel elephant:

More to come if this thread drops off the first page!

as i'm sure you saw, i submitted a photo in eligible. i would like to try to improve it slightly - same photo, just little different pse technique. is that permissible?

thanks...Keith
Ok everyone, here it is...

We've been good and earnest students just recently, exercising our
technical skills and sharing knowledge and expertise, now it's time
to have some fun.

The next challenge will be all about humour photography.

Humour is a part of everyday life. Everywhere you look there is
something going on that can make you laugh. A natural scene, a
staged scene, it doesn’t really matter, if its funny, capture it in
a photograph and put it in the challenge. The subject can cover
everything from slapstick "pie in the face stuff" to sarcasm,
passing through witty social comment and bizarre juxtapositions.

We've all seen humoristic photos passing round the net, let's all
use our imaginations and try to capture moment that will make
everyone laugh!

Challenge 72 begins at 8:00am EST (New York time) on Friday, July
2nd, 2004, and will end at 6:00pm EST (New York time) on Tuesday,
July 13th, 2004. you will have two full weekends to obtain images.
Please note that the times have changed slightly in order to make
them more convenient for us Europeans.

Learning from the experience of the last challenge, I believe that
the rules concerning the number of entries should remain as they
are now. Although I had some doubts about it when Andy proposed it,
I think on reflection that limiting the eligible gallery to one
entry only, forced me to be much more serious and self critical.

However,as the topic is not a particularly technical one, I have
decided not to allow the possibility of posting for critiques in
the forum.

So the rules stand now as follows:
  • only one (1) image will be allowed in the eligible gallery. three
(3) images may be entered in the exhibition gallery. remember,
exhibition can be for "new" images, too. so, you have a total of
four images that you can enter into the stf challenge.
  • please put your name and a unique title on your image. it really
helps to keep voting issues to a minimum.
  • please resize your images to not larger than 800 pixels on the
longest side before uploading to pbase, and save with a medium
compression.
  • As usual, post processing is allowed, however due to the nature
of the subject, I would prefer to see "live performances" rather
than photoshop montages. Therefore, please restrain yourselves...
  • please don't move images around in the galleries...respect
first-come-first-serve. you can repost an image into its original
spot if it's the same image (that's just been altered). a new image
should be placed at the end of the gallery. this should avoid any
confusion, and everyone will be treated equally.
  • please keep your questions and concerns posted in this thread for
best response.
  • challenge time period will run from Friday July 2nd, 2004, 8am
EST (New York time), through Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at 6pm EST
(New York time). time tables will be posted in the galleries.
voting will begin shortly afterwards.
  • eligible images must be taken with a sony digital camera within
the challenge time period. the winner of the eligible gallery will
host the next challenge. all entries should include a date
indicating when the photo was taken and the original exif data.
  • exhibition images can be obtained with any camera at any time. if
you do not want to host the next Challenge, this is the gallery you
should post your images to.
  • those not familiar with uploading images to pbase can view this
link for instructions: http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/howto
  • remember, the login name to pbase is "stfchallenge"; and the
password is "stfpost".
  • here’s a link to the stfchallenge 72 galleries page:
http://www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/challenge_72

The gallery might not be up yet but I'll do my best to put it up as
soon as possible.

So, come on everyone, please join in & have fun with "Humour
photography" ...veterans and newcomers alike. this challenge is
really about fun this time, learning and sharing our common
interest, our funny moments of life and our love for photography. I
really look forward to your enthusiasm and participation in
challenge 72, so please get involved, look around you and have a
lot of fun!

Enjoy !!!

Penelope.

You don't want to know what the penalty is for removing a hell rock!

(more bumping humor)

you can rest assured that that's allowed, and it's always been that way. There's even a reference to it in the current rules in this thread:

"* please don't move images around in the galleries...respect first-come-first-serve. you can repost an image into its original spot if it's the same image (that's just been altered)."

Make sure that the replacement you upload to the Eligible gallery at pBase has exactly the same file name as the original image. That should cause it to replace the previous version automatically, leaving the title and comments, etc. untouched.

Yes you can you can do it. It is explained in the topic rules you can even replace it with another one -

Thankyou for replying on my behalf
I couldnt have put it better.
(Actually there was quite a lot of icing on the floor too)

There's my dog opening his Christmas gifts.

Get in there and join the Challenge.

Keep this thread on that first page!

I traditionally buy his favorite coated leather chewer bones and wrap them under the tree...he gets 6 or 7 presents to open (sometimes a bag of snausages, sometimes bones, etc). He is generally just like a little child before Christmas...smart enough not to open the gifts, but curious enough to sniff around and identify which are his in the week before Christmas (one time when he was young he opened one early and got yelled at, so he knows not to do that now). On Christmas morning he lays under the tree and waits for the family to come in, and when we all grab a box to open, he heads under the tree and goes to his presents like a heat-seeking missle (since he's already sniffed out which are his ahead of time). He gets just as excited as we people do tearing into the gift wrapping!
Hey thats cool what was in the present?

Thanks Michael. It seems like a more fun way to do it than just saying 'bump'!

Since these are old crappy Mavica pics or captures from video, the quality is far too low and irrecoverable to try posting in competition, so seems like a good way to keep the humor idea alive while we wait!

I will reserve them for those moments when I check the board and find this thread has fallen to the 2nd page.

I think I've got about 4 or 5 more uploaded...after that, I'll have to scour my albums for more. So if anyone else has some to bump with and I haven't done it yet, feel free to throw your own in!
Justin,

I'm really enjoying your bump method. What a treat!

Humor bump post time again!

Here's a baby chimp who was playing by mom's side, but as I went to take the picture, all I got was momma's back and an upside-down blur of brown hair falling into the bushes below:

Poor little guy fell upside down onto his head...and let out some serious crying. But you could tell it was one of those child cries...more for the embarassment and attention than for the pain!
