That’s a Cormorant sitting on a pole that Arty Morris placed in the water to give him opportunities for nice portraits. You can spot Arty’s locations as he drives 4x4s in 3’s at a row boats width. He has all sorts of tricks and if you ever get a chance his seminars are well worth it.

I’d been shooting at the West Pond most of the morning. I decided to take a walk over to the East Pond to see what was doing there. As I arrived there was a racket of honking and lots of swans were taking to the air. I wonder if JFK tower was controlling them as they took off and landed on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay in New York City? I posted this photo to show you how close the East Pond is to JFK. The first is my favorite.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

I agree, the first is best and a nice one. I like the wing position of the second, but would take cropping etc. to adjust like #1. How good is it if zoomed in to same bird size?

These are lovely, Morris, and are among my favourites of your birds in flight photos that I have seen. I think it is partly the extraordinary elegance of swans (when airborne of course ;-) ) but also the position in which you have caught the wings and the light shining through them.
Thanks for the background info too.
Cheers,
Nionyn

Very nice, I especially love the backlit wing in the first shot, adds some very nice texture to the image.

Hi Morris

I really enjoy seeing your improvements over a year of "birds in Flight". Wonderfully shot, great detail, I like both. Do you feel you benefited from that course you took in NYC a while back. I can't remember who offered the course but you did mention it was about photographing wildlife action shots, I could sense your excitement in your posts...
Well Done
Dave

Thank you TMc,

The Both photos are already cropped. Going further with the second one would take away the quality and it is not the best in the first place.

Thank you Dave,

Arty Morris who I spoke about in this post gave the seminar and I did gane from it.
