Does anybody have experience seting up a webcam using their 505? Since the camera has TV out and I have a TV card in my computer, I figured there would be some software I could use to setup my camera as a webcam.
What software should I use?

Thanks
Paul

Yes Paul, it can be used as web cam. I think any software that looks for the video signal coming from the RCA jack on your video cature card. Did you try Net Meeting? There have been others on the forum asking about this. Hopefully one of them will see you post. Sorry I can't tell you for sure which software it is.

I have an F505 and I also have a USB Kodak DVC-323 as a web-cam. The F505 cost at least 7 times as much as the Kodak. I would not bother using an expensive still camera as a web-cam when there are so many cheap dedicated web-cams available.

Paul,

if your TV card is somehow supported by for example Netmeeting, and you can connect the F505 to your tv-card, it WILL work as a super-quality webcam. I have a normal, cheap webcam with a TV-Tunercard which is supported by NetMeeting. I connected the 505 via the TV-Out connector to my TV-card, and it works perfectly well. The only thing to mention is that the 505 switches OFF in about 1 or 2 minutes or so since you're not pressing any buttons normaly (except when you push for autofocus one every 30 seconds or so.)
Furthermore, really perfect quality webcam!
Peter

and to Robert: Is is darned better quality than any normal webcam available!

If you use the AC-power adaptor instead of battery it won't switch to "off" after few minutes. BE sure that you turn off the demo mode and the parameter display

The F505 as a webcam....that's a sacrileg :)

It is...i tried it and it works flawlessly

I use this program:
http://www.surveyorcorp.com/webcam32

It works together with my haupauge tv card and allows everything from simple FTP picture upload to java based image streaming....and the configuration isn't that hard :)

See ya in high quality webcam wonderland ;)

I thought somewhere I read that using the F505 as a webcam might damage it in some way... I wish I could remember where I read that... It seems it said it could damage the CCD ?

Was I dreaming ?
