Anyway, any pic of der Moon shouldn't qualify, unless there were more than one of them (notice that sneaky little 's' tacked onto the end of the woid 'shape').

Still, could be much woiserer; the subject COULD HAVE BEEN 'The Moon'.

Of course, that subject would not prevent pastiches of my portrait, and this is a family show, after all.

Now, with 'Shapes', I'm almost tempted to have a go, but would have to be under a pseudo-whatsit — abit like double-bagging.

So, spot which 'Shapes' maybe mine...

But you sound toooo young to have received the George Cross.
( wonders whether to be flattered or offended ) Just how young do I sound?
So, what's the 'GC' in your sig?
Nothing interesting I'm afraid, just my middle and last initials. I've gone for partial anonymity to prevent myself appearing in search results too much. Also, it's a spam prevention measure, that way any mail with my family name in is almost certainly not spam.

...and I been thinking that the way this seems to be way, way wide open...

I mean, EVERYthing has a shape, right? So, ANYthing (or EVERYthing) could be entered. Seems a bit too wide, no?

It seems to me that the 'shape' in these entries should be the dominant factor, not the subject shot, per se. IOW, it seems that showing shapes rather than specific elements that are easilly defined (and seen!) gives the challenge some definition. So, if I shot a car for this, your first take should not be "a pic of a car", but rather "interesting shapes in that... whatever it is" Does that make sense?...

Am I wrong about this? Is that too constrictive?

You'll le me know, no doubt...

I'm waiting for that comment: "Doesn't look like a shape to me." ;)

As always, I guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder.

Hi Shudder.....

yes.. Ive been struggling conceptually with this.. Ive also picked a challenge before and I know the difficulty... make it too restrictive and it gets crazy... but make it too general and it becomes a submit your best shot fest...

I think the point of the challenge is to direct us in a somewhat specific way to hone our skills.....

Im not really in favor of a submit your best shot challenge... Im in those all the time.. Photo of the day challenges abound.....
Today once again I struggled with the concepts of what I should shoot,

its beginning to like look I will be looking at a still life with a variety of interesting shapes and colors and lighting.... and thats about as specific as my concept is..... in the end I think that abstracts and still lifes are most likely to qualify for this... and landscapes, wildlife, people, are least likely.... but that being said... what does NOT have shape.... and some people are shapely indeed.... so... gosh.... what to do, what to do.... I guess an abstract is a good choice..... Ive not done one of those yet.... that should be a learning experience.... and still life... I sure need work on that too.... choices, choices......

I promised MikeBee I wouldn't say that!!! grin

I finally got an idea, but can't really describe it without giving it away.

Basically, I think one take could be to have a "scene" that has some obvious "basic" shape in it. Basic shapes being a square, circle, triangle, etc.

My two cents worth. (Ok...maybe not even that much.)

Shudder,

The guitar from your 'abstract' (ch4) entry would have done the job for ch20. Too late now though!

You could make the argument that there is a potential image in everything. The trick I suppose is to make it interesting to look at. I doubt that a straight car pic would be of much interest although technically, yes, it does have a shape.

The same can be said for your guitar pic, I think.

good hunting

I've got a scene with a shape I quite like (even if no one else does) but I bet some pedant would say: "That's just one shape, it's supposed to be 'shapes' - plural". Not going to give them the chance. ;)

Couldn't we have three tries?

Good luck with yours.

I suspect given the number of out-takes I have, that the end of this one will bring an interesting out-take thread!

I am sure you are correct teldar! I am also sure that I shall realise yet again after the Challenge that one of my out-takes would have done better than the one I chose as the entry!!!!
