Nikon seem to have become followers and not leaders. Promised lenses have been delayed. Prime lens prices are astronmical. the D70 (when it appears) seems to have been rushed out as a reaction to the Canon 300D. But worst of all, they still don't have a full frame DSLR (this is almost commercially criminal). Nikon, when are you going to get your act together?

I diont accept this. Given how good the specs of the D70 are, I cant see how that qualifies as a rushed product.

I would have thought it is simply good business myself. Kodak already have a full frame Nikon solution, and given the availablity of Nikkor lenses in the 12-24 range for there 1.5x crop cameraes, (unlike Canon, who are relying on Sigma to cover that range) whst is the incentive for FF anyway? Nikon, it seems to me, have at least decided to go with the 1.5x crop, while Canon appear to be undecided as to what to do.

"Shhhhhh, please keep very quiet, child".

"Okay, Pappa, but there is a lot of mumbling going on
near us. And a really bad smell."

"Don't worry, it's just a Troll -- mostly harmless,
some bad habits, but you're too young to hear all
about that."

"Pappa, what's it doing here?"

"We can never know it's motives or what it is doing
-- they are too different from the rest of us.
Perhaps it was attracted by our sense of fellowship
and the energy of all of us working together toward
our shared goal. Perhaps it was the sense of loss
when it realized that so much time passed without
having had a date with a human."

"Will it stay long?"

"We can't be sure how long it will stay, but
sometimes they feed off of what we say here -- it
will probably leave sooner if we all stop paying
attention and talking to it. You know, that's the
most important part of it's diet. Without our
attention and responses, they perish."

I'm very happy with my D100, lenses, flash, and all that other stuff. For me it's not a matter of what you have but what you do with it that counts. I can't see any of the issues you mention affecting me in the forseeable future.

Thanks,
Israel

uninformed and insecure creatures like you to Canon. So all said, we are most happy to get rid of dead wood from the Nikon camp. Bye.

How about this little beauty: 17-55 Nikon AF-S lens, announced mid last year, still waiting....
Prime lens prices are astronmical.
No more than Canon.
The above lens will be around $1500 US. It may be great glass, but look at the price!!!!

Would Nikon have bothered with the D70 if not for the Canon D300. While the specs are good, are Nikon bringing this to market because they wanted too or had too? Canon seems to have dragged them, kicking and screaming into this segment through initiative. Thats what I want too see from Nikon, initiative not just reaction.

It's true, Nikon have embraced the 1.5 crop cameras, but full frame will yield better image quality and isnt that what Nikon have always said they produce? Sharper, clearer, better pictures? If it's about quality then Canon have proven they have more dediication to quality using this criteria.

If the next Koday 14 DSLR really has an improved sensor, Nikon may see alot of their DSLR market evaporate. Then if Nikon run true to form we may see a full frame DSLR then.

Why don't I buy a Canon..... cause I've got a great range of Nikon lenses from my F4's. I just need a great DSLR to put them on.

I may ne uninformed (please inform me) and I may be insecure ( I know my mother loved me) but I am not insincere. I genuinely want Nikon to take quality, cost effectiveness and innovation more seriously (just like Canon).

If the sky opened up and Gods ss came down and pooped on all of us and Nikon was the only to capture the image you all still would not be happy

Nikon is a relatively small company with no pretention to monopolise the market. It's trying it's best to deliver quality products for those who choose them. Once you accept this fact, you'll stop comparing and blaming.

Yes and no...you should read about issues of this type of sensors and why some companies abadoned this way and why smaller sensors are better in some ways. Canon is big and powerwfull company but they can't change laws of physics.

Some of this is arguable, and comes up regularly in this forum: I would recommend catching up on some of the threads in here, if you are interested in seeing different viewpoints and analysis.

However, the D70 comment is plainly wrong, as previews of the camera indicate strongly that it is rather more than a "reaction to the Canon 300D". In fact Nikon has thoroughly thought this market through (which, incidentally is the most "commercially" important DSLR market of them all), and taken the brave decision to "raise the bar" for entry-level DSLRs - even though that means cannibalizing their own offering (D100) as well as taking on the 10D.

The 300D will continue to be successful because it is cheaper (and not everyone does enough research to understand what they are buying); however the D70 is taking on higher specification cameras - at a near-300D price. Nikon has geared up to produce 70,000 D70s per month. I would strongly argue that this demonstrates the "leadership" you mention, and we are already starting to see "follow the leader" responses (i.e. price cuts) from some of the other manufacturers competing in this category (Olympus and Pentax; I expect Canon to follow on the 10D and Nikon on the D100). Lets just hope that the D70 "cuts it" technically, otherwise I may find myself inching closer to the doom-sayers camp!

I'm all in favour of controversial postings to get some discussion going (and do not agree with the tone of some of the responses inside this thread), but the posting has to be thought through properly. Your contribution indicates that you are "dipping in" to the forum, and that you could benefit from doing some elementary background research before "firing off".

... you don't need to encourage them. When I was making my own mind up it was comments like this that threw me over the edge in the end.
